What do you need to know?

Just about everything. It's a disabled hunt and I've been offered by the WDFW. You have to go into Idaho, back into Washington to access it. I just wanna know if elk are there, or is it another happy dance that the WDFW makes look good.

Not sure where Buck Creek is, but I've seen Elk sign right across the river from Usk. I'd go high up this early in the season.  There are Whitetails and Moose in 113, too.  Good luck, Camp!

Well lets just put it this way, the times that I have been up there I have seen more bears than anything. I've never seen elk in that area but that doesn't mean squat. They are there but like anywhere in the northeast corner they're in small groups. Its heavy timbered and rugged so you're gonna have to put in the work thats for sure!

I've hauled many tons of wood chips into and out of Usk and into P.O. Newsprint. But I've never been over the bridge in Usk.
Been all over Sullivan Lake, but never across the bridge in Usk in 5 years of being near there. I think I'm gonna load up the ATVs
and head over there Friday and look. I do have an Idaho wolf tag that is burning a hole in my wallet.....

You guys go to the WDFW site and click on ADA access, you'll see an elk in the upper right corner, click on that and scroll down until you see the USFS hunt with #261, that's it.

Lol.  This is not buck creek you are talking about.  It is listed for BUTCH creek.  That should clear things up a little and get you better replies.

Had a cousin who worked for the PUD and kept track of them and would share what he saw. But Buck Creek are you talking about the road headed off of the Sacheen lake cut-off? If so that is gated now or used to be.

Yes, it's Butch Creek. I misread the name. I have to go into Idaho to access this hunt.

Do you take the road north out of Priest River to get there?  Stayed at the motel in PR several times.

In my Gazateer it looks like you can get in there from the Bead lake/BearPaw road on the washington side.  Bet is some nice country in there.

Yes sir. Turn left on Bearpaw Road, into Washington and look for ADA sign.

There's gotta be a stupid reason why I'd have to go into Idaho, who know's, because the WDFW doesn't....
I was told to call Idaho to see if I could use my ATV ??? Huh !!!

It actually might be faster from the Idaho side. I haven't gone that far on the Bead lake side, but it is nice country. I have hunted north of that area few drainages, and the one I was in was easier to get into from the idaho side.

One day I talked to a couple of hunters that had driven the road all the way from Bead Lake to the area I was hunting just east of Usk.  While scouting near Bead Lake and Marshall Lake I looked for the road they took, and never found it.  Didn't have a map, though.  If I have a map, I can find anything!

Oh, don't worry. I have higher, reliable sources working on it right now. I have to start with WDFW to get all the access passes, maps, keys etc. WDFW is not my friend......

I think you're talking about Cook's Lake Rd.  Takes you up above Bead, past Mystic and Cooks Lakes then loops you down Best Chance towards the river and Usk.

Cool country!

Pretty country for sure, but I've never had any luck up there for elk. From my experience they are there or not. They definitely are around, but since the population is so small and the pressure is heavy, they know how to stay out of sight.

Just my experience.

I jumped an Elk out of its bed during early muzzy deer and elk season one year, but with the leaves still on the trees and brush, I heard it, but never saw it.  Pretty country, yes, but hard to hunt until the leaves fall off!  That's why I gave up on the early half of the muzzy season.  And Elk is closed the late half.  :bash:

Those dates must be for your special hunt.  I don't even see it listed in the Big Game pamphlet.  But that would be a good time to be hunting them up there...
