I've been putting in for this tag 12 years and finally got drawn. What do you think the fires will do to that November hunt? I not sure if it's good or bad.
-
Where I would be hunting the unit the fires have not burned.......If you get enough snow to push the migratory deer into the burn it should be even better cause where they normally would be hiding, they will be standing in the open...... SO, as for good or bad....I would say it is good for this year!
-
It's really hard to make any predictions yet, because the fires are far from being out.
A lot more country could burn between now and whenever the weather changes and puts an end to it.
-
I would suspect that these fires will will still have hot spots till and through when your tag starts. Its all a matter of how much is burned by that time.
-
Congrats on your tag!! worth the wait.
-
I was thinking that it should concentrate the deer in the areas that didn't burn. Hope they well move through the burn areas quickly and end up in some of the traditional wintering areas that still have feed.

Just save one for me I have the smoke pole tag...

:yeah:
All you guys with the mission rifle and muzzy tag....The season has been closed please do come over and waste your time. All the large bucks in this unit are believed to have been burned up. Beings that I live so close and gas will not be an issue, I will hunt with my muzzy tag and report what we already know.....the hunting is going to be horrible. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Get to the river

The fire will be good if they reopen the areas but very bad if everything remains closed. Follow the closures and fires by visiting the Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest website and look for closure maps. The fire maps are on www.inciweb.org/incident/3258 (http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3258)

If it is open (the only reason I can think of for it to be closed that late in the year is due to fire rehab work...) try Mt. Home Road. It goes from Blewett Pass to Leavenworth...and did not burn this year (it did a few years ago, and is now all grown up with feed...hint, hint). You WILL find deer, probably some nice bucks too...but that is about the only place I can think of that would be worthwhile and not in a burn area. If you want to get away from the road, just drive to the top and hike out some of the draws towards highway 2 or 97 (Blewett Pass) above the orchards.

Thanks, I hope we get some moisture soon. I don't often say that but until it happens no one will be getting into the woods. I was looking to do some scouting but that doesnt look to promising right now. Hoping for an Early snow to get the deer moving down from the high country. With the wet spring I think the bucks got some good early antler growth.

We may see acouple of toads taken this year I'd be excited about the hunt .

Earshot.....There is a ton of that unit open right now, according to the map I looked at last night. Take a look, I posted the map. If I had the rifle tag, I would not be hunting the area the fire is in anyway, unless there was snow on the ground. That is not usually the case for early november.
