Got my peaches ridge bull on the 7th. First time hunting with a bow and my first elk. Pretty tough hunt, a lot of ups and downs.

Cut him some slack. I noticed he's from Odessa and Deutschesfest was only a week and a half ago. Last time I was there it took me a good month to get all my ducks in a row :chuckle:
-
I am on my phone and can't get pics to load. I will put pics up when I get to a computer.

Ok sorry to tell you the Internet at home is down so pics will have to wait but here is the story. It all started this spring when I got drawn on the multi-season elk. I was ecstatic a great opportunity to kill an elk just fell into my lap. Then special permits roll around and I made the choice to only put in for bull tags even though I had no real intention of getting drawn. Needless to say when I read the results and saw peaches ridge selected I went from being happy to cloud nine. It was a dream come true a chance to kill my first elk with my bow and a big bull at that.
The month of June was spent researching which trail cameras to buy and fine tuning my elk calling. The end of June meant time to put up cameras. My cousin and I went up knowing where we were going to put the first cam but had no clue on the other two. We spent most of the three day weekend hiking fighting the heat and Mosquitos. Seeing few elk we were kind of shooting in the dark as to where we hiked. We finally got them set and agreed on a two week set and see what we had and change batteries. I think he may have been more excited about seeing what was on them than I was. He took the first trip up to do more scouting and check cams. Well he came back with good news bulls lots of bulls. It was the same thing every time we checked them lots of shooter bulls for the next to months.
Ok well I have to go try and kill a deer before the sun goes down. Stay tuned I will be back with more of the story and hopefully some pics......

the sun is going down and your still here :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: welcome and congrats on the bull

I need the rest of the story and some Pics!

OK I got my pics to load....
My cousin and I spent the last two weeks of August looking through every pic my cams had taken about 2,500 in all. We finally had it narrowed down to two different bulls a 5x6 and a 6x6 each beautiful in their own way. The 5x6 wide and tall and the 6x6 heavy and even. The two bulls were coming to the cams on a regular basis and during the day! Perfect right?!?!?!?!
August 31st came and it was time to hit the woods. We got camp all setup and couldn't wait to get into the woulds to check the cams. The suspense was killing us even though we had seen the bulls a million times in the pictures from the month and a half before. When we got to the cams it sure was a surprise but not the surprise of a new monster bull that would trump all the rest we had. It was that there was not a bull on film. After finding out all we had pics of were cows, calves and spikes it felt like we got shot in the stomach. Despite that bad news we kept our chins high and knew we had four long days of scouting to try and find even a shooter bull.
Alright here are some of our trail cam pics. Its time for bed. I will be back tomorrow to tell more of the story!

Wow man, not showing us the down bull pics!!! Your making enemies fast lol

Here is a pic of the dead bull!!!!

I posted a pic of the dead bull, therefore I did what you asked and it is now true! What more do you want? :IBCOOL:
-
Ok. Not really interested anymore.

I rarely post, but this thread is awful. Please take this personally as in "Please take this personally". If you are going to write a story with pictures, then do it right the first time.
-
This thread is a joke. A junior high student can load pictures, get it together. Hope you got a nice one.
-
thats not a picture thats a thumbnail, my avatar is bigger :chuckle: nice kill

Ok well we have some party poopers on our hands so I will give you a rushed version.
My cousin and I hiked all over the mountain looking for our bulls only to not find a one. We had a bull bugle to us the night before and two nights before season but after that not another peep. One bull showed himself the mornign before season a little rag horn bull. I passed on a cow and a spike the first night of the hunt and a cow on the second night. The plan was for my cousin to leave early fri morning and not hunt because he had to work that night. Thur night rolled around and we saw a big bull (possible the bull I shot) with another bull not sure of the size right at dark coming up out of a water hole. these bulls got us both jacked and my cousin decided to stay just for the morning so he could maybe get a better glimpse of the stud we saw. Fri morning rolls around we could hear a bull bugleing from our tent. We went back to the same spot we saw the bull the night before and started to hike. Made it prob a quarter mile up the trail when the crashing started above us. We had just left a flearing and were on a trail that was only one person wide so I back around my cousin and listened to figure out where they were going to come out. One elk was going to come out in the clearing and the rest were coming down right on top of us. When the single elk committed and was going to show itself first I focused on where I thought it would come out. There he was a shooter bull I had no clue how big he was just that he was a shooter bull (pretty much any bull was a shooter bull due to the lack of elk we saw). He stepped into my small shooting lane at 25 yards and I let him have it double lunged and he went 30 yards and expired. Shot the bull at 7 and had camp back and heading down the moutain at 1.

-
Very Nice! Way to go!

 great bull.

What do you think he scores?
-
Right on!!! Very unique bull!!!
-
Very nice bull, like that left side...a little character
-
Very cool non-typical bull. Congratulations.
-
Dandy
-
What do you think he scores?
The can has been opened  I'd say 435....at least.
-
Very Nice Bull! Way to go. . .congrats!
-
Not to toot my own horn or anything but I was thinking atleast 470. ;) But really I have no idea where to even guess him nor do I care what he scores. I know that odd brow or g3 is goin to cut the score down by quite a bit.
-
Unique bull.. Congrats
-
Back from the taxi.
-
very cool bull
-
That is a dandy bull....let alone your first elk and your first year archery....wow! SPOILED!
-
Just reread that and it was a tad misleading just first year archery elk have hunted deer with the bow.
-
That is a nice bull, but the best part was reading this thread. I was laughing so hard at all the antics of everyone that I can hardly type. It turned out to be a nice mount also. Good job on the hunt and keeping everyone guessing here.
-
I'm not an expert at judging scores, but there's no way that goes 435. What did it score
-
I forgot to say regardless of "the score" it is an AWESOME BULL!!!!!
-
neat bull, congrats.
-
He didn't score worth a darn. It was like 260 or something like typical. That extra brow/g3 is 24" his whole left side is way shorter than his right. If he would have matched his right side it would have been 340 something. Even knowing the score I would take the shot again 100 out of 100 times. He was truly a dream come true and I thank you all for the congrats!!!
-
That is a wall hanger regardless of what Pope and Young may tell you....If you wouldn't shoot again I would be right behind you palming your face and pushing you out of the way to take my shot :chuckle:
-
Nets are for fishing! Great trophy!
