I can't wait!  Tree stands are hung, muzzy is sighted in, all ready to go!!!  What I'm really hoping is that my buddy's son (12 yo) will get his first deer.

Good luck out there to everyone!

yeah, this is my first year hunting mulies with a muzzleloader. I second that about the rain. most of my unit is shut down, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve to find that elusive doe to fill a second deer tag.

Good luck all and hopefully we see some pictures

I don’t know where to go; the usual spots are all closed.  I guess I’ll drive around and look for a place that isn’t burning, closed or full of smoke.

I would be heck of a lot more excited if it would rain on the west side....

I'd take a little rain myself this weekend.   First year for me hunting with a muzzleloader.

I am excited and wish i was more ready than I am but I have Friday off of work to get my rig loaded and ready.  Hunt only about 50 minutes from home so thats nice.  Setting my sight for a 170 plus Muley.  Drew the multi-season tag this year so the ranch I hunt on is a little bit better in the rifle season but you never know!  Just to get out and play in the Sagebrush will be fun.  Going to be trying out my new Vortex bino's too.  Yahoo!!!! and Get-R-Done!!!!!

Good luck, dvolmer.  You will find that the muzzle loader season is a lot less crowded than the modern season.  And if you do meet another hunter, he will most likely be a "serious hunter", not someone who goes to WalMart and buys a 30-06 and goes out and shoots at everything that moves.

I agree with the woods being less crowded but I am wondering how many more hunters will be out with all the multi-season permits...

I have muzzleloaded since the early 2000's.  I started when my kids got old enough to hunt and I would go by myself or with buddies Muzzleloading and than would be able to spend the time with my kids in the field during modern and not have to be worried or pressured to hunt myself.  It has worked out great and now my kids are older with the Multi-Season tag I can hunt more.  I have had the multi-season tag now for 3 out of the last 5 years.  i know they have added more tags but I dont think you will see that many more hunters because they didnt get enough people in the draw to give them all out and those that did draw, probably only half or less alctually purchased the tag.  Good hunting to all!!

Everything is pretty much closed down by my cabin in Montesano. I got a few other spots but nothing like down there. I think it would take three days to a weeks worth of rain for them to open up some of the timberland.

I've got the multiseason, too.  Be looking for the big buck since the elk is already in the freezer.  I have a plan...just not sure how good the plan is.  Going to make a 3 day trip.  It's an area that was involved in a fire.  Hoping it will leave a fewer islands of green to find that big buck in.  Also an area that makes my hunting method more successful.  They close the area to motor vehicles so I won't go hiking in and get passed by 4 wheeler.

I'm excited for my 1st ever muzzy deer hunt, unfortunately I volunteered to work this weekend (double time and a half ) so I'll wait till next weekend or the general rifle season. No regrets about the multi-season tag, gives me alot more options. :chuckle:

I'm going out tomorrow! I have never done the early season and the place I normally go isn't open. I am going to head to Umtanum unit and stroll around lol. I have only been out there a couple times so not expecting much. Should be fun to get out of the house though!

I know I wish I could seed at 50 mph then I would get done really fast :chuckle:

I have to wait on some seed grain until mid afternoon. So I am going to head out in the morning and more or less hunt for some points towards my elk hunt next year :chuckle: There are not many deer right no but there will be more then a few road hunters :bash:

i took the week off, was planning on going to asotin since last season...unfortunately that got canned due to fire danger and nobody wanting to go.

looks like most of the woods are closed up around my area.  got one old timer buddy that wants me to pick off one of his garden eating deer one of these evenings, might have to take him up on it.

Congrats golf guy!!!

thanks, it was definitely a different experience than the other two weapons. I would like to say that it only took one shot, but there were some learning curves here. First shot I thought she was a little farther away than she was, shot over the top. Second shot was a bad rest off of a small deadfall with 20-30mph winds. Now after getting mad I say screw it and close the distance from intially 150 to about 35 yards. 3rd shot was as she was facing me, slightly quartering away went in just in front of her left shoudler, exited middle of the rib cage. Lifted her up off of the ground, then sent her tumbling about 10 yards closer to me (close enough to see she had blood coming out her nose.

I was really hoping to have the bullet stay in the deer to see how much weight it retained.

I was very excited until yesterday started... I don't know if it's because of all the multi tags or because of the fires but I have never seen another person where I hunt until this year, Yesterday and today I saw people everywhere.  I don't hunt on the roads but don't usually have to get that far off of them for deer where I go, but people want to rally their 4wheelers around and now I haven't seen nearly as much.

I have the multi tag too but I'm starting to wish they wouldn't have made these tags.

I was in an area that was partially closed due to fires, and was shocked at how few people I saw. Hunting pressure was non existant.

I hiked in 3 miles and  only saw a handfull of hunters, one herd of elk, and got into a pack of howling wolfs, not exactly what I was looking for.

Us, too...but we didn't see many deer once the season opened.  The day before, driving around scouting, we saw two toad bucks.  Over the next two days, a grand total of one doe at about 150 yards on the run.   :bash:
