Title: Roadkill Blacktail near Arlington
Post by: RG on September 27, 2012, 06:24:07 PM
This 4X4 blacktail lost a decision to a minivan near Arlington this morning.  I was impressed with the very large body and already swollen neck.  The deer was still alive when I arrived on scene so it wasn't bloated from laying there all night or anything.

Very sad that would have made many hunters season to bag a blacktail that size.

The last word I got the owner of the land where it ended up was calling his brother who has a bow tag I believe to come and get it.  I went on my way because it made me sad to see such a great animal end that way.  He was pretty busted up.

Who cares. At least it won't get wasted if that happens. It is such a nice buck. Hwy. 530  :dunno: I know where a buck was there that may be him because that grass kind of looks like it :P

If the guy is going to tag him, theoretically illegally, why post a location?

It's a bunch of BS that animals are wasted on our roadsides and make someone willing to do the right thing (in my mind anyways) a criminal.  Yes, the person benefits from the meat, but they also cut their own season short as well as take the risk that some of the meat may not be salvageable.  It is too bad, once again, that our Wildlife Department can't look at the successes of other states' Game departments and emulate them....   :bash:

Nice deer BTW.

Your right Loki.. Some of their philosphy is beyond me ..I personally would not tag an animal unless I killed it but in this case if someone wants to waste their tag so the deer does not got to waste have at it .Back in Pa where I am from you can now take road kill BUT if it is a buck you have to report it to the dept. and turn in the horns ...Now how damn stupid is that  :dunno: :bash: A few years ago someone hit a huge blacktail on I-5 and the State Patrol had to put it down and someone came by and ask what was going to happen with the deer and the patrol said I do not know .Then the guy tells him he has a tag and if he could tag it and take it ..The patrolman said if you have a tag and it is in season you can have it ...So I am taken it that it is all on the officer that shows up ..and thats how it should be ...

I'm surprised the anti's have never tried to ban motor vehicles, they are far more wasteful and reckless killers than any hunter will ever be!  :twocents:

What a waste.

It's a shame that it was still laying there alive that long.  WTH is wrong with WDFW that they won't even allow people to put an animal out of it's misery and suffering?!?!!  You would think doing the humane thing and putting a bullet in that animal would be rewarded instead of criminalized.
