Title: Vortex Vs. Leica
Post by: remington300mag on October 01, 2012, 10:20:25 PM
Ok folks....Here is my question. In the market for some new or maybe new to me bino's......With the price range I have right now I have lowered it down to 2 choices, the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 or used Leica Trinovid 10x42 (I can get for around $750). Throw me a bone here....which would you go with and why....... Or if you can think of something else that is in the same price range....throw that out as well!
Thanks for your time and input!!!

Used the vortex extensively both here and in Africa and for the money theres nothing better on the market! Warranty is second to none with quick turnaround and great customer service! In my retail shop have literally sold hundreds of Vortex items. We also take care of any warranty so the customer doesnt have to bother! Just come in and we will swap for a new item. Then WE deal with Vortex warranty!

I agree Vortex is good for the money but Leica is some of the best glass you can buy. I would without a doubt go for the Leica assuming they are in good shape.

You would be foolish not to buy the Leicas.
Like asking if you should buy the new  Mercedes or the Camry for the same price.
Or the 1985 Cadillac, if you would actually consider Leupold.

Are the leica trinovids the ones that retail around.d $1600?
I bought vortex razor HD binos after comparing with the leica (I think trinovid) and could tell ne difference. But I did not look at any other vortex binos either. I really like my vortex though. Leica is very good also.

I have Vortex Binos and spotting scope and love them both. They have a no fault warranty so they will fix or replave for whatever reason. I have used my binos a lot in the three seasons that I have had them. They are always in my pickup and have been abused pretty good. The only thing i have had fixed on them are the eye cups and that's because I stepped on them when they were extended out. I have quite a few friends and family with vortex glass and they all really like it. My question to the post earlier is how did the vortex's of your buddies break? Any thing can break I know of Swarovski and Leupold glass that has broke. Whats the Leica Warrenty?

If possible, my advice is to look through both pairs side-by-side and let your eyes decide.

I've used both and I am more than happy with the Vortex.  I like to have the extra cash for other gear too.  I bought a used pair of Vipers that seemed to fog a little on one side and traded for a new pair at the local dealer.

The only thing I don't like about Vortex is that they're made in China.

(If that's something that concerns you)

Germany needs his money to bail out Greece and Italy.

I have Vortex Talon HDs and love 'em. I would, however take a look at the ZenRay.

Most Vortex Binoculars are made in China except for the Viper, Razor, and Kaibab which are made in Japan.

Mine have a "Made in China" sticker on them.  :bash:

Unfortunately, I can't afford Leica, Swarovski, or Leupold.

So I have what I can afford.

The top of the line Vortex stuff will run all day with the others. I have a bottom of their line (diamondback) scope that fogged up on the inside. I sent it back to them and they fixed it and returned it to me within 10 days of me sending it in. The $200 scope was either 6 or 7 years old. Warranty and customer service was top notch for me. If I had the big coin to drop on glass, I'd stick with vortex. I own 4 pieces of gear with their name on it and it all serves me well and none of it is top of their line stuff.
