Title: E. Washington Goose Hunts
Post by: huntnphool on August 27, 2008, 11:01:27 AM
My brother-in-law has shown some interest in going on a guided goose hunt, the kind you sit in a blind or individual blinds in a field and have them called in. I am thinking of hooking him up for a Xmas gift but dont know when the seasons are here or when the "time to go" is. Before I go booking a hunt with a "complete" stranger, I thought I would try to keep the HuntWa community money right here and check on guides on this site. Anyone here a guide or know of a REPUTABLE!!! guide to hook me up with? What should I expect to pay for a day or two of hunting, I have never done this before? :dunno:

huntnphool, I go with Northflight waterfowl, they are located in Moses Lake. I'm not a guide so can help there. In fact I'm getting ready to book a hunt with them.........

I had a couple of good times with Pacific Wings. Alot depends on the birds. They do have a ton of leased land, so your chances are always good. Express to them what you want out of the hunt and they are pretty good about keeping you happy. Its not cheap. It will run about 300 bones apiece. A awesome experience to have those birds come in on top of you. Definitly give it a try.

I agree with arrowflinger.  Northflight is a great guide service.  Ben Holten is the owner and he makes sure that he has top notch guides and productive fields.  Northflight does have a web page that you can go to that lists rates and dates of availability.

Duck Lake guides outa Harrington, Pacific Wings, Burbank Hunt Club, jeez, fact is there's a gazillion guides out there, most of which want you to have a real good time. The regs have lots of ads, ask your guys in the local DU club.  Remember, half of it is in your attitude..decide you're going to have fun, and I'll bet you do!

I've hunted with Ben at Northflight and also with Paul's guys at Burbank, heard lots of good things about Aaron.  You need to think about how you want to hunt. Paul kills a lot of birds out of his pits, but you dont get much of a chance to see the birds work.  Ben hunts both pits and layouts, it can be more difficult to hide some guys in layouts but you can see the birds work and even have the chance of goose poop hitting you in the face.

Just remember that no matter what it's still hunting and there arent any guarantees of limits, some days the birds cooperate some days they dont.

Only 1 time in 5 last year with Aaron did we not limit buy 10am that day we had 9 people in lay out blinds which is a lot and he stayed out from 7am until 4pm to get us our geese problem was the ducks came in the afternoon and we shot more of those than geese  ;)

I wont go with Northflight or Burbank ever again.\
Aaron runs a great outfit and is a lot of fun to hunt with.
The Mesebergs are also good guys to hunt with.

Not a big fan of Burbank. The one time I went we sat in a pit blind as geese flew into our dekes. Paul would not let us shoot, Because another pit had birds working. We sat till the other pit had their limit (two hours). We end up getting out of our pit and heading over to that blind. 30 minutes lated 26 birds down and we got rushed out of the pit so they could stuff another set of hunters in the pit...................it just didn't seem like hunting, but just killing. I have never been back.

Northflight, works had for their fields.........they know the birds. Plus, they help out our DU committee..............

i would like to take my dad goose hunting with a guide but i dont wanna hunt with 9 other people, that sounds like a recipe for chaos, my dads friend went last year i cant remember with who but the guides did 50% of the shooting and rushed em out as quickly as possible.

Wow, that really sucks to hear of that kind of pressure on the hunter. Get in, get out and pay the bill. I guess I really lucked out when I purchased my place in eastern Wa. Last year I purchased a layout blind and started busting birds with a couple of guys. Yesterday at Cabela's I purchased a new Beretta Extrema II for this coming season and I plan on wearing it out.

Good luck on finding a guide.
