Title: East Klickitat Late Mule Deer Muzzleloader
Post by: brow7634 on October 08, 2012, 10:17:50 PM
I am a Firefighter from Western Washington that is looking to hunt the Late Muzzleloader season for Mule Deer in East Klickitat. After doing my research it seems that most of this area is private. My questions is if any landowners are willing to allow a responsible hunter an oppourtunity to hunt a weekend or so on the property. I am an ethical hunter and would treat your property with the utmost respect. I would not bring any other hunters only my son to tag along as a non hunter. Please feel free to ask any questions of me and I appreciate your time and consideration.

I know some folks with property over there and they are very hesitant to share. Do some more research and find some state land. Its there but getting access may take some legwork.

Good luck. Getting access on private land is next to impossible, especially down there. I have hunted in that area for quite a few years with my friend. Use to be we had free access to all the family owned land. Last few years, we have been more limited due to me not being blood family. Hunting land is very protected from what I see. Hunting land anywhere seems to be very protected. Guess if you try hard enough, you may get lucky, everyone likes Firemen, right?

The guys are spot on extremely limited public ground in this unit, plus about half of what is public is land locked. The few chunks of ground get the hell hunted out of it. No saying people don't kill deer in there but very low %. As far as finding private ground to hunt, without paying. Even lower % there is a few hunt clubs that sell hunting rights on ground most around 500.00. I tried to get a good chunk to do semi guided hunts on but could not get it ironed out this year. I hope to have something next year.

Most of the gun clubs in that unit are cutting back on club members b/c of the lack of bucks, at least on the eastern half of the unit. One of the clubs up here shutdown their doors completely for this year.

Terry, I'm just curious why you applied for the hunt if you did not have access lined up ahead of time? Did you have access that fell through?

It is a general unit in the early and the late season. :twocents:

There is a reason units like 382 and 381 are open for muzzy mule deer. Lack of pressure due to lack of access.

I spoke with my friends, sounds like the lions have most of the deer ate or the deer left due to cat pressure. Could be a slow year for us in that unit.
