Title: Eberlestock blue widow or Sitka Bivy 45??
Post by: Kyle1112 on October 09, 2012, 10:16:45 AM
what do you guys think about both these packs, I am in need of a new pack and these are the two I have narrowed it down to. Good and bad of each? Gettin some insight before I drop the cash on one. Maybe pics of either in the field would help too.

Blue Widow!!!  It's probably a little heavier than the Sitka, but I love mine.  Packed stuff around all summer and packed out my cow elk opening day of archery too.  Load was heavy but comfortable and no shifting around, even as I was climbing over deadfall.

I'd go Tenzing over either better carrying capacity and less weight in the same price category.

My buddy has the Sitka. It is supper comfortable but has broke on him twice while halling a heady load of meat. He is not impressed with the toughness of this pack :dunno: :twocents:

I have the blue widow and love everything about it but the lack of padding on the shoulder straps and thats only during warm weather and wearing just a t-shirt. In colder weather with more clothing on its not an issue. Well built pack.

I have zero complaints about my blue widow. Blows away any other pack i have owned or my buddies have tried.  Most of my partners have switched to or are switching to the blue widow.  It is just so versatile.

I think Sitka rates that pack as a 75# max load pack.  Fine for sheep and goats not so great for elk quarters + gear.  IMO it is a high priced glorified Badlands pack.  I personally like the Eberlestock better and feel it is more versatile.  Sitka would get the edge if I were doing light day hunts and had a heavy hauler for loads of meat.

Im pretty sure im gonna go with the Eberlestock, im have a full sitka system but like some of you guys have said the blue widow is just more versitile and id hate to take a chance on breaking in the field. i know sitka would replace or repair the pack but id rather not even worry about it.. thanks guys

I bought a Blue Widow this year and was happy with it.  It's nice to have a day pack that you can zip open and pack a load of meat on the way out.  It probably won't handle super heavy loads like a Mystery Ranch, but it is much less expensive.  Here's a couple of pics of my Blue Widow from this year's elk hunt.  In the first one, it is loaded with boned-out meat before heading heading back out in the dark.  The second one is the last load out with the antlers lashed on.
