What do you guys think? If it rains tomorrow will they open up some weyco land? They are calling for rain for a few days! Im hoping it may be open by saturday if it absolutely pours on friday? Keep praying for rain!
-
Doubt it as it will take days before it soaks into the trees and plants ... however you should call Weyco directly and ask them ... current website posting says "nada".
-
The websites and newspapers talk specifically about the large areas like vail. Is there any info on the smaller unnamed weyco land plots? There are many small plots that are a couple/few hundred acres that are not mentioned on the website. If they aren't marked, is there a precedence to those?

Keep calling this automated info line.

It is possible that if it rains a little they will allow walk-in only hunting.

I just keep checking this site.

These are general rules and regs. They don't tell you anything up to date. You have to call the hotline.

I am hoping they allow some access. I would prefer that they open up the vail tree farm as it is close to home, but even if they allow walk in I would put up with all the other people walking into gates just to be able to hunt. I can hardly stand to think that I might miss out on a day of hunting unless I can find some open land that is worth going to :bash: :bash: :bash:

Right below "Rules & Regulations" it says "Recreational Access Hotline Script" if you click that, you get the script that is used to record the message for the hotline.
-
Either way, pray for rain!

I see the issue, Longview script for St. Helens Tree Farm only shows the access hotline and no information.
Thanks for the clarification.

None of the timber companies plan on opening this weekend. Mid week at best.

Except Hancock and probably several others.

Went through some light rain in Ridgefield this morning. Nothing in Rose Valley yet.

It's finally raining!

It's finally raining!
Excited so please forgive my shaky handwriting.
Raining steady and the woods are wet. I predict WEYCO will open for walk-in traffic if it continues like this!
-
WEYCO just opened for foot traffic only.
-
Does this mean Vail is open?

From WEYCO;
At this time, the Vail tree farm is closed to ALL recreational access due to extreme fire danger. Absolutely no access of any type – not even walk in – is allowed. The tree farm will re-open for recreation access when we receive adequate rainfall.
-
So far only the St.Helens tree farm is open.
-
Open to walk in only correct?

Open to walk in only correct?
Yes sir, that is correct.

Anybody know of a good place to access somewhere near 667 or maybe somewhere of a similar distance south of Olympia/Thurston County other than Cap Forest? I've hunted Vail pretty exclusively since I was a kid and this is my first hunt I'm doing without going with my dad and now Vail is looking to be locked up tomorrow morning.
-
It will be open to walk in.

It will be open to walk in.
Not according to my buddy who logs in Vail. He said next mid week for walk in and next weekend for vehicles. :dunno: Weyco security has been thick here at Vail the past few days. They have been making sure everything is well posted and that no one is sneaking in to scout or set up camp.
-
I just called and spoke with the receptionist at vail operations. she see's no change, no matter what the rain does today or tomorrow. Expect no change until late sunday or monday is what i was told.

I also have a friend that works in the woods for weyco. He said that they wanted two inches before they opened the gates.I'm pretty sure they won't open for this weekend.
-
So does anybody know of a decent alternative in the area or is Vail pretty much it?
-
Hate to say it.....
Walk-in only and raining?
Most "hunters" won't even get out of their trucks on a good day. Could be the best opener in years!
!!!!GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!
-
This will be the first opener in 16 years my dad and I won't be going to Vail.
I wish hiking was an option but there is no way my dad can hike with his bum hip.
Looking for alternate plans and hoping for the best.
Good luck everyone!

The Vail tree farm is closed to ALL public access due to high fire danger until at least Monday Oct 15th. Even though rain is in the forecast, it will take a substantial amount to lower the fire threat from this 3-month plus dry spell. Monday morning we will review the amount of rainfall received along with road conditions and update this recording with any changes.
This what I found about vail this suck no ft Lewis no vail where can we hunt.

Last I've heard is all the Weyco land is still closed to public access until further notice. I imagine they'll open it up after the weekend. Hopefully sooner.

Alrighty so I, am really confused. Forgive my ignorance, but is the land off of highway 504/505 (toledo cut-off and spirit lake highway) open to hunt?
Someone mentioned that the st helens tree farm is open and i believe this is part of it, but im not 100% sure. :dunno:
don't wanna go getting myself in trouble so i figured id ask. thx

look at a map, see who owns it, then check their website, but trust anything you read by others because they wont be paying your fines

Power of suggestion and positive thinking. Duh!
