Title: Help a girl out!
Post by: jennyfell55 on October 15, 2012, 09:42:56 PM
It's that time of year again! First of all I want to give a HUGE thank you to the people that offered to help me last year! Here's take two!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for people to go out hunting with, since my little sedan is not a forest road vehicle, and more importantly Dad made me promise I wouldn't go out into the woods alone. I went out duck and deer hunting last year and LOVED both. Shot my first duck, but still no deer :( I'm hoping to fix that this year! I live just south of Tacoma, but I'm more than willing to drive to meet somewhere closer to you (the car can't go in the woods but it gets great fuel economy :) ) I have camo, a rifle (or shotgun), good boots, all that fun stuff... what I need is a mentor/partner.  I'm available pretty much any day, but Mondays are busy for me recently. Looking forward to meeting some more of the awesome people on here!

~Jenny

No place in mind. I went to Vail last year, as well as Olympic Forest, somewhere out past Raymond, and some other place I don't remember lol. I'll go wherever someone that's willing to take me with them goes :)

You sound like the perfect hunting partner.  Won't have to worry about you taking other people to the honey holes.  :)

That's exactly why I make a point to not remember where I went. ;)

You're on the wrong side of the state! You should be chasing whitetail on the eastside!

Wow! Thank you SO much to all the wonderful people offering to help! I've never actually had to check my PM's before! :chuckle: I never cease to be amazed by how amazingly helpful people on this forum are. I look forward to meeting y'all and getting out there and hunting! In addition to deer and duck, I'm hoping to get out and try goose and coyote hunting, and maybe even a grouse! I hear they're tasty

Don't forget turkey, pheasant, and one of my favorites, fox.

Not 100% true. I did have two members offer to help me. But I see your point lol.

Maverick: I'd love to try all of those :) I actually already have a turkey choke for the Mossberg :) Pheasant seems fun but I wish the west side tag wasn't so pricy... I've heard the release sites over here can be kinda scary and a lot like a war zone lol. Do you hunt them over here or east side? Would .223 be overkill on a fox?

eburkett: Hunt yesterday was fun, but not successful. Saw loads of sign but mostly a day old or more. I'm starting to wonder if the weather has anything to do with it... both times I've been out it's turned out to be a bright sunny day instead of overcast or raining like the weather said it would be lol.

SilkOnTheWetSide: I guess that's the upside to being a girl!  :P Makes up for getting ignored at gun stores and auto part stores lol. Or even better is when they try to pull a fast one on you cause they assume girls know nothing about guns or cars  :chuckle:

:yeah:  Besides, you don't need a 4x4 to hunt where I do--unless it snows!  :chuckle:

If I had reliable plans I'd love to go after a whitetail!

I think you should post some info about yourself so people know they arent trying to take out a 17 year old girl hunting....you might get more responses that way.

Fair enough :) I thought I'd written more in my original post... whoops! :sry:

I'm 26, and last year was my first season hunting. No luck on deer but I connected with a green winged teal and had a wonderful time, even without getting a deer :) I figure even if I don't find a deer I'm meeting new people and learning new things about hunting and tracking game  I work out on Ft. Lewis as a "cultural role player" which is basically a civilian actor that the Army uses to train troops getting ready to deploy. I've been an injured US soldier for medical training, a hostile Iraqi civilian for convoy training, and everything in between. I really love it. Unfortunately there hasn't been any training recently so I'm not getting any work out there :( Good part of that is it means I've got lots of free time to go hunting!

Thats true, 17 year olds can hunt. Maybe its just me, but if she was 17 (which she isnt ) it would be pretty awkward for a guy in his 30's or older to meet this girl to hunt and find out shes only 17..... I guess some people wouldnt see the problems with that though  :o

This is hilarious!  I've seen so many post on here where guys have asked for a hunting buddy or someone to help them out and they received little to no help...  The most common response is "read the forum and past posts...  Plenty of info to help you".   Unbelievable. Hahaha.

Like I said lol... makes up for all the crap I get at gun stores! LOL. I've lost count of how many stores I won't shop at ever again because they ignored me for 15 minutes only to jump at the opportunity to help the next guy that walks into the store

go see Andy at East county in Elma tell him I sent you  :) he and the kid that works there are good guys and like their female customers.

if your motives are innocent and hunting is the idea there is no reason to see a problem due to age....now if you all see potential score well thats different .....to be honest male or female helping anyone under 18 and you need to coordinate with parents anyway for your own liability protection.  And if this is truly an issue married men ought not be offering to help the ladies and I am sure we could come up with plenty more rules of engagement  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Unrelated, but I've know some people who have had similar work at State Patrol and police academies if you're looking for more work!  I've always thought it sounds fun but I'd be a horrible actor and I can never keep a straight face :chuckle:

Are you planning on Elk hunting this year? There will be 3 of us from the forum hunting around Mt St Helens next weekend. We're all old enough to be your dad and in relationships so you don't have to worry about alterior motives. You could meet us in Castle Rock if you're interested.

Pheasant seems fun but I wish the west side tag wasn't so pricy... I've heard the release sites over here can be kinda scary and a lot like a war zone lol.

The W/WA Pheasant price is INSANE  :yike:  I drove past a release site down by the Skookumchuck Reservoir and was amazed, purely amazed that people will fork out that much dough for that kind of hunting.

Do you hunt them over here or east side? Would .223 be overkill on a fox?
I'd say it's the highest you should go if you care about preserving a beautiful hide.  Fox have very, very fragile skin.  Good thing is .223 comes in some slower shooting (still accurate, often more so) loads.

I agree the cost is high but if you think about it, it's more than fair. They have to raise and/or buy pheasants to be released throughout the season. That is not cheap.

Try buying your own birds and see what that costs. Or, try going to a private hunting club and see what the cost is to shoot a few pheasants. It will be way more than the cost of a west side pheasant license.

We have talked and if she gets over here we could hunt quail I have not seen a single pheasant in any of the areas I go to since I moved here a year ago...kinda weird actually as I used to see lots of pheasants in the general eburg area  :dunno: or spring turkey if my kid gets things together and is feeling good I have found a couple turkey filled holes....might be fun....hmmm turkey with a 410 could be a challenge :chuckle: gonna have to get really close
