Well we had one of those perfect mornings that are rare in the woods. Kyle's dad contacted me after he drew a doe tag for 382. So we picked the day and he got ready for his first deer hunt. Well today was that day. They met me early in the morning and we headed out for a morning hunt. I had put a bunch of deer to bed and gave a couple yotes a dirt nap last night. So I had a solid idea of where to be in the morning.
At first light we got to where I wanted to be. No sooner did I pull up the glasses and their they stood. After a short walk I had him on the stick and ready to take his first shot at a deer. He was glass calm and listened very well. The perfect target as 2 out of 3 does in the group are barren and have been there all year long. He got settled on the biggest one and just as he started to shoot. The deer made a bolt for it. Right before they got to the top. The biggest doe came to a stop at 163 yards. I asked if he was on her and rock solid and he said yes. I told him to hold right on and squeeze the trigger. The gun goes off and the deer does a forward flip as it hits the dirt. He flat hammerd this deer.
She was quartered a little away from us on the shot. His bullet went threw the liver, then threw the heart and the front of the lung. Then stuck right under the hide just in front of the off side shoulder. He thought he had missed her at first and I assured him she would be laying right there. After the climb up the hill sure enough there was his big fat tasty doe!!!! He was very excited!!!
His first deer hunt and his first deer all in one morning! I tried to explain to him to not get use to hunting being that easy :chuckle:
Congrats to the young man for making a heck of a shot and congrats on your first deer bud!!!
