Well I would like to start by thanking everyone for the help. This was a great opportunity that I will cherish forever. There is not much to the story though. We drove for 8 hours on Sat. and got our campsite set up and went road hunting to learn the area a little bit. Never seen an animal other than a grouse that someone shot at and missed. He said to be greatfull, he got the miss out of the way. The next morning we left camp at day light and headed up the road we went about a mile from camp and there he was walking down the road. Joel and I jumped out and started after him on foot to see if he was a shooter. Joel said he looked good to him and was making a call to get him to turn. When he turned his head I shot him in the neck from about 75 yards and he drooped right there. Then we spent the next 5 hours getting him cleaned and in the truck.
Almost forgot I asked Joel are you sure he is a shooter. I never wanted to look to close at his antlers and blow the shot. Thanks Joel you were right.

I just had it scored. 170 1/2 The scorer said it is 4th in the state. It also made B&C but im not sure where. I cant wait to get this mount back. Only six more months to wait.

I am really surprised on the score because of the lack of a forked brow tine on the one side. That normally really hammers a mooses score as it negates the other side as well but if its official then its official. Photos are hard to judge obviously and no matter becasue Its a really cool bull. I love the width.
-
My honest assessment would have been about 145 for his score. NOT being critical, just giving you what I saw.
Here is the breakdown of my opinion FROM A PHOTO
55 inch width
42 inch palm length (again, no fork on the one side, guessing about 21 inch lengthx2 (hardest to measure and judge by photo)***
14 inch mass (7inches x2) Doesn't appear to be super massive
18 inch palm width (guessing about 9 inch across back of palm x2)
16 for points (9x8)
for a total of 145 give or take an inch Net Boone and Crockett. SCI would be way different
-
I am not sure whet to say. It was scored by an offical measurer in Buckley. He did deduct for the single brow tine.
-
No need to say anything, just a testimony how great he is. If he had a split brow, youd be adding like 24-30 inches or so to your score. The state record is 183. That would put your bull at about 200. The world record is 205. I would wager your bull is the highest scoring bull ever without a split browtine. Sort of like 3 point muledeer in Boone and Crockett. Not many of them can make it. Thats pretty 8)

A 150 Shiras is a monster, a 170 with a single brow? :yike:
-
For those curious, this is the state record. They really don't keep a width record, but width certainly helps with moose scores.
Marc took this huge bull moose while hunting in Stevens County, Washington during the 2005 season. The bull has 13 points per side and is 54 6/8 wide, he scores 183 6/8.

Very nice bull. Something like 82 moose bull permits and we only get a few on here each year. Must be more out of state guys drawing than I think or non members.
-

lets see the score sheet that should solve any questions

Actually there are no deductions for having a single brow, you just dont get as much length on the paddle measurement.
The only deduction would be for lack of symmetry.
-
Don't you deduct the lengths from one another?
-
Don't you deduct the lengths from one another?
You deduct symmetry but not specifically because it has a single brow. I'm assuming his 170 score is gross, 170 net with a single brow.............not likely.
-
Agreed I would still like to see the measurements just out of curiosity to compare to one I saw this year
-
I did not get a copy of the score sheet. I will contacthim and see if I can get one. Or if he will postit. He is a member.

Nice

Bone I think the width makes the other measurements look smaller, I think he scores pretty well because of the extreme width.
Here is what I would guess him at:
54 4/8 inch width
62 inch palm length (I think those points qualify as double eye gaurds on both sides, 31 x 2)
17 inch mass (8.5 inches x2) I think the width makes the mass look less than it is.
20 inch palm width (roughly 10 inch across back of palm at widest point x2)
16 for points (9x8)
That makes 169.5, pretty close to what the taxi said.
Regardless of what the final score is, he's a fine moose.
-
that's the biggest bull entered in books ;) I saw 2 come into a taxi shop from 49 unit that were never entered that were much bigger
-
Mac,
that is a dandy bull!
-
Durn good moose!
-
Just curious, how much meat did you get off of that beast?
-
I would guess about 600 pounts of meat in the freezer. Its the best tasting animal I have ever had.
