A message for the guy that stole my trail cam and hunted out of my ground blind some time over the last 72hrs, and then was stupid enough to drive his WHTIE LIFTED DODGE DEISEL TRUCK OUT :bdid: into the back of the field to either hunt again and/or to finish stealing my stuff tonight. SURPRISE, SURPRISE I WAS IN THE GROUND BLIND TONIGHT, I SAW YOU AND I KNOW YOUR TRUCK!!!!!You travel the Guide Meridian on a regular basis, RETURN THE CAM, PLACE IT IN THE GROUND BLIND YOU WERE HUNTING OUT OF AND DON'T EVER HUNT THAT SPOT AGAIN, I WILL FIND YOU!!!! If anyone on here has a kid or knows of this guy with this truck and all of sudden mysteriously has a Bushnell Bone Collector trail cam. PM me or make him do the right thing. Tell him to get a job and quite being a load!!!!!!!!!!! DO THE RIGHT THING, MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT I WILL FIND YOU. My first stop tomorrow will be Dave Sporting Good in Lynden. Like I said I KNOW YOUR TRUCK!!!!! OH AND IF YOUR A MEMBER OR KNOW HIM PASS THIS ON TOO, I LIVE RIGHT BY THE SPOT AND HAVE A MULTI SEASON TAG AND I AM AND WILL BE THERE ON REGULAR BASIS. SO MAKE SURE YOU SNEAK YOUR WORTHLESS ASS OUT THERE.
-
WOW :yike:I WOULD BE PEEESED TOO ! I hate people who steal :yeah: I found a trailcam in my honey hole the other night ...yeah I was a little ticked but I just waved and moved on ...thats what everyone who finds someone else stuff should do !! :yeah:
-
Don't take me wrong, but if this was on public land, there is really nothing you can do to keep him out of your blind. I wouldn't hunt it but it wouldn't be wrong. As far as the camera, you shouldn't steal it but if it was on public land, what do you expect? Things are too crazy today for me to trust someone to not use or take the stuff I leave on public land. Sorry you lost out on the trail cam.
-
cboom pm sent, thanks for helping. If anyone see pics or hears of these deer being taken PM me. The 4x3 with eye guards has a main beam that is bent to the left on the left side, the lil 3 whatever tall and narrow, the 3x2 has almost a corkscrew look to his antlers and the last pics I have of him he looks like he might of lost his right eye. Seems like unique racks, except for the lil 3.
-
Hey CBoom "AKA Goob" who is this. Where is it at. I have a couple of lifted white dodges that come to mind
-
What I expect is for people to have a little integrity, if its not yours don't take it. That's not what this sport is about. I grew up hunting, being taught to respect the land, peoples property and if I want something work hard and buy it. Today you got people leaving garbage behind, destroying peoples property/land and taking everything and anything that's not bolted down. I grew up North of Spokane around Mead and Deer Park. I have friends/family still over there that have to worry about there kids during modern fire arm season from the road hunters, people trespassing on there property, stealing stuff from there cars, truck and out building. Hell last year during late archery we had someone steal a large tote off my trailer and Millers Outpost while we were inside paying for gas. It was every piece of hunting clothes, spotting scopes, etc.. my buddy owned. It's not the way people should be acting. If I had my way I would hold court right in the field with these people, judge, Jury and executioner or limb remover.
-
I always wanted to set a trail camera up in an obvious spot with another camera hidden pointed at it. Make it a cheap or even broken camera in the obvious spot, a decoy. Take pics of people trying to steal it (Id cable it so it would be difficult) and then make a thread posting their pics 8)
Side note: all my traps I cable to a tree with 1/8 cable. I carry a swedger with me in the field and when I'm ready to retrieve my traps I actually have to cut the cable with my cable cutters. Most people can't cut 1/8" cable in the field. I have people every year try and just give up. Maybe a good idea to do this with your trail cameras.

TeacherMan,
The thought has crossed my mind, and leave a note inside or hold a note up to the cam saying r sure you got every cam. If not I got your picture and the rig you drove in with, including your plate. Be excepting a visit from the sherif, you LOAD!!!!

that would be priceless to see their face :chuckle:
-
i will keep my eye out for that white pickup. not sure what part of the county you are haunting, but i hate to hear about this, especially since i live and play in whatcom.
-
I also had a trail cam stolen this week in Whatcom County. I had the cam locked to a dead snag and whoever stole it pushed ove the snag and broke branches off to pull my cam over the top of it.
Again - I have no problem with people hunting public land, I just don't get why you need to steal someone's trail cam. Hopefuly I run into them in the spot soon so I can confront them.
-

Well, I have to respectfully disagree with you. Ethics would dictate that you leave someone else's ground blind and camera alone. If you checked and no one was there, there's no reason not to hunt that area, but using or stealing someone else's stuff is unacceptable. As a matter of fact, if you are under the impression that someone has left something there and intends to come back for it, taking it is theft and punishable.
-
Ethics? Camera: yes. Ground blind: maybe.
Here in the southwest, where water is scarce, hunting over water holes is more popular than the PNW. A camera isn't bothering me and doesn't affect my hunt, but a ground blind might. Its first come, first served, on a daily basis, for hunting over watering holes. You can't put up a ground blind to dibs a water tank for an entire season or even just the next day. I've come upon watering holes where there's a ground blind that wasn't in the spot I wanted to set up, so I left it alone. If the owner shows up after I do, according to the Game and Fish Dept, they are supposed to leave the area and let me hunt it, regardless of whether their blind is there. I've also come to water holes with ground blinds set up which were exactly in the spot that I did want to hunt. I didn't steal them, but I did take them apart and toss it aside. I am curious as to whether ethics of other hunters say I should have left it alone(?).
I heard the gammie for a unit nearby will go out in plain clothes and sit at a watering hole early in the morning. Occasionally a hunter will show up and say "this is MY water hole." The gammie is reputed to ticket such hunters! I like that

Yes BC, but as you noted, this aint AZ. There's plenty of land to hunt and no need to touch someone else's stuff. I could see carefully taking down the blind and even leaving a note about it being public land. But since the guy is already a known thief, I wouldn't expect any courtesy from him regarding the blind either. I'm actually quite surprised he didn't take that, too.
-
my grandpa told me when i was a young buck " IF IS NOT YOURS DON'T TOUCH IT" !! I have applied that saying my entire life. If i set a ground blind up and someones decide to take it down I'm calling BS.. samething with a treestand. be respectfull of others property period!whats next towing my truck that's parked at the same gate??? leave a note call a game wardon and move on theres plenty of land.

there is a bunch of lifted dodges up here. Get any pics of it? I have some very good diesel connections..
also, do you see it in any of the lynden truck galleries here?

A suggestion for trail cam users.
Take in with you some ladder sticks and place your trail cameras in the trees cable locked and 10 foot high or so.
This seems to greatly reduce or eliminate theft. I think most folks dont ever see them cause they are up out of the normal line of sight. And while alot of folks carry multi-tools that could be used to cut cables, few carry a ladder. Dont place them over bait, its too obvious.
Would be nice if folks just left stuff alone though and you didnt have to lock stuff up.
-
Great idea

I've considered the same thing but never tried it. How well does this work, and how do you ensure you angle it properly everytime? It seems like it would eliminate line-of-sight quite a bit. I suppose I'd rather have less pics than a stolen cam though.

Unattended blinds are available to the public on a “first-come first-serve” basis. These rules were designed to provide an equal opportunity for all users.
2012 Regs. p. 88.
That said, I probably would not use another's blind or stand, unless it was in an area that I wanted to place a blind or stand. Instead, I would probably just hunt another area, or put up my own blind or stand. But the requirements are clear. You cannot "call" an area by setting a blind or stand, then leaving it unattended.
Sorry about your trail camera, that behavior should be punishable by more than what currently applies.

This has to do with permanent blinds set up by the state or by organizations like DU. This isn't referring to privately owned blinds, although it could be interpreted that way.

Granted that we're off base from the OP but..
There IS plenty of public land, but if I get to it first that morning, I'm using it if I want. Call BS all you want. I don't care who taught who what personal ethic. The law is on my side, at least in my state. Someone leaving a ground blind in advance doesn't mean squat. I don't believe in sitting in another persons ground blind so if its in my way then yes I'm disassembling it and moving it. That kind of song and dance might fly in WA but if you try it in Arizona first you're going to get your ground blind seized and then you're going to get ticketed.
p10: Hanging a tree stand or setting a blind near a waterhole does not entitle a person to exclusive hunting rights to that waterhole. Depending upon the location it may be unlawful to leave treestands hanging or ground blinds set for extended periods of time. They may be considered abandoned property and subject to seizure.

I'd venture to guess that you and I now a lot of the same people who are regular pullers at Bertheson and Moses Lake, some of which are tuned at a certain diesel shop on the outskirts of NE Bellingham.....

When I'm across the street getting my morning latte, I have been known to call the short guy behind the front desk and poke fun at him about being displaced during the remodel. I laugh, he whines!

My buddy makes mounts that are just a piece of all thread that threads into the tripod screw adapter in the bottom of some cameras/bear boxes smashed/soldered into a length of copper tubing thats flattened and has a few holes drilled for screws. Take your cameras, cable locks, bear boxes (if you have), a cordless drill, and some sheetrock screws. You screw the tubeing mount into the base of the camera, climb the tree and screw the tubing to the tree with sheetrock screws. Then you can easily bend and twist the copper tube to aim the camera. Lock it up, then climb down and do your walk test. Climb back up and turn it on. Then take your ladder sticks and go.
Never seems to be an issue aiming the camera or getting pics.
-
Look, I don't want anyone to take what I said wrong. I don't condone what happened. I just think that people shouldn't get all pissed off if someone leaves a camera on public land and it isn't there when they go to retrieve it. If someone does take it, how can it be proven they stole it? They could say it was abandoned. There is no way there could be theft charges brought against them.
As far as the ethics of not hunting someone else's blind, first come first serve on public land. Yes it sucks but that is how it is.
-
There is absolutely no reason to ever touch someone else's trail cam. Zero. :twocents:

Wow. Really? You sound like a thief. It's a fricken game camera, if you take it home with you it wouldn't work. Would it?
-
First off I am not a thief and if you check some of my past posts, you would know what I did to get all my tools back that got stolen. I have never stolen anything in my life and never will. I just wouldn't leave a trail cam on public land unless it was cabled 10ft up in a tree. I would expect that someone would steel it if left in a visible location and not cabled to a tree. How dare you call me a thief sir.
-
These same game cam stealing people probably voted for the obamanation. That's the problem with the world today. It's easier to steal from others than earn it for yourself.
-
I agree with you. You shouldn't assume someone is a thief and call them that. I hate thieves but it keeps getting worse and worse. I guess I have grown to not trust anyone. Hence, I will not leave my cameras on public land.
-
I don't have any game cams. If I did I would definitely be putting them out of reach. Too many hippies and thieves out there.
-
Then what's the point of a game cam? Strap it to a tree and back off 50 yards and sit and watch it all day :chuckle: I don't think so..
-
Update, no camera but did talk to a guy that was pointed out, invited him over to the house and he showed up. I don't think it was him. He would have to have balls the size of water melons to have shown up if he had taken it, especially when I was waiting out front for him and I am not a little man. He stood there talked to me about the property, turns out he knows the owner, he did take the 4x it looked bigger dead than it did on my trail camera. So as far I am concerned we are good. Lesson learned don't put up trail camera with out it being bolted down or my friend who works for USDA as a wildlife officer said he would give me federal tag to put on my cameras that they use on theres making it a felony to mess with...... He was joking........

True... But you can't leave a set of dekes out all night why would it be ok to leave a ground blind. Hell technically if we get down to it leaving the blind is littering.

Update got the trail camera back , Thanks to all the Whatcom County Guys that helped with tracking it down!!!!! I'm hoping the guy that stole it thinks twice now about taking something that doesn't belong to him.

great to hear! glad old sticky fingers got called out :chuckle:

how did you get it back ? did he show up with it or did someone else ?

Glad to hear you got the camera back..... and the local thieves were put on notice that folks are paying attention.

Turned out the young man that was accused didn't like the thought of being blamed for it. But he had a pretty good idea who did, So to clear his name, he made the guy that took it bring it to me.

Just read this- glad it had a good outcome.

Glad things turned out. Now list who the thief is so they can feel bad and learn a lesson.

He wasn't on public land. But I still don't understand your logic? I leave my truck parked on public land all the time when I am hunting. Should I not be pissed if somebody steals it? People have all the right in the world to be pissed off whenever somebody takes something that does not belong to them no matter where it is taken from.
:yeah:
I don't understand the logic either. A guy should be totally pissed if he goes to check his cam and it is gone. I lag bolt mine to a tree in a bear box, and haven't had the misfortune of having it stolen yet, but I sure as hell am going to be pissed if it gets stolen.
What if a guy rides a mountain bike in somewhere, parks it and hunts for a while, comes back and the bike is gone? Should he just say "Oh, well.........it is public land. Too bad". ??? Thieves suck. It doesn't matter if it is easy for them to steal an item, they shouldn't be stealing. They ought to get their fingers lopped off if caught stealing. :twocents:
-
Thieves are worthless!.......
I have never had a camera stolen ,But last year the landowner showed up
Twice with his dog and wife.Funny thingishe swore that no one ,Not even him
Has been out in the wooded part of the land.Lots of scrapes on his pine trees around the pond but no shooters.
-
I hope I find a trail cam, I would take like nasty shots with it, crotch butt etc, then put it back on the tree lol
We did that with a cell phone I found, I called the owner and told him I found his phone, but put pics of me in a speedo on it :chuckle:
