Post by: Harold on October 20, 2012, 08:32:59 PM: i spent most of my day up and around the 3040 road. we saw 3 doe's right after that hard hail/slush storm thing that happened at 10ish i think and that was it. i was honestly really surprised in the lack of movement i was seeing all day, in vail and morton.

Im in the Army and from here and told a buddy from work about the Vail area and showed him on a map where to go, he went out there today and got a really nice fork n horn. My brother in-law goes to the same area in vail, all he say was 19 does lol. Ill be out with him tomorrow though.

First one looked like a buck, but as soon as i got out of the truck it was halfway in the woods so i didnt get a good look at it. Then some guy came bombing down the road. He asked if i saw anything, i said nope just looking for sign!!!

When I was looking for spots I just cross checked areas between the map and Google earth satellite/topo view. If you find something that looks decent just walk in and see what you can find. Plenty of deer in the area, we saw 15 does, 4 fawns, 2 bucks and a huge 5x5 bull in a single day.

Were did you find the BULL at?? To the Right or Left and your talking about in Vail right?

Walk in behind a closed gate, not around the main line. Sorry if I don't want to share too much, hoping it will still be there when the time comes.

Post by: grousetracker on October 21, 2012, 08:20:40 PM: if he is from centralia he would not go in the vail loop road, the big hanaford side is open. i could guess where the elk was but wont theres only a few spots the elk are in vail. i was in there yesterday and watched two parties shooting at 1 spike in a huge bowl, he got away too. poor spike had to run around 400yds with a ton of lead in the air, i counted 9 shots and he was still running, probably in onalaska by now.

I was worried that the newest/youngest hunter in his first season would see antlers and shoot. Luckily that didn't happen.
