My dad shot this buck this morning. He shot it out of a ground blind at 100 yds in a foot of snow. (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp538%2Fdwilson26%2FIMG_0777.jpg&hash=50d76a039ec82b9bb2aa062e6b4915b57f71fd44)

Yes, this area doesnt get good until late in the season or weather hits. This same spot produced a 200 incher back in the 90's.

That photo and deer are priceless, my God what a monster. Truly a deer of a lifetime, congrats. And thanks for posting, I hope we don't get any negative dumb as s responses on this thread. I would walk and pack in 20 miles for a deer like that, great, great deer. Did you get a score yet? I might have missed it if you already posted it, Thanks again for posting. WOW

:chuckle: Maybe I should have mentioned orange was worn before and after pics and it was then tagged. I did my best to score it and I came up with 174 before deductions.
-
do you have a recap of the hunt? Would love to hear the story

:yike: Holy buckets, that is a dandy, anywhere, anytime.
-
That's a Great Buck

Thats what i thought. I'll let a professional do it right.

I agree score looks a little low, regardless it is a true trophy especially here in wa.

Congrats to your dad, that is awesome! I love mule deer hunting and can't wait for next year already.
-

-
:yike: What a beast! Congrats!

Awesome Buck!! Couldn't have happen to a nicer guy!
-
That is a toad! you should be proud!
-
That is the most beautiful buck that has been posted this year! I am a little shocked at the 174" score. I was guessing 185" or so based on the pictures. Either way, I would shoot that buck on any day with any tag in this state
-
   Amazing buck! I would have definitely guessed higher than 174" as well!
-
Had a B&C scorer measure it up tonight and he came up with 188 1/8 Gross. There were a couple of measurements I somehow missed. And thats why Im not an official scorer.
-
That certainly sounds about right. Congrats on an awesome buck.
-
That sounds a little better! No doubt a great buck. Congrats to the hunter.
Did you get my pm?
-
Nice buck! Lots of mashers this weekend!
-
Awesome buck, congrats to your dad...

The buck was taken from a ground blind, after hiking into a remote area that has produced some decent bucks over the years. After sitting in the blind for 3 hours in heavy snow, I decided to relocate a few yards away at the base of a big tree so I could have some protection from the snow. Approximately 30 minutes later I noticed movement below me, as my buck of a lifetime suddenly appeared as he walked out of some thick timber. There was no need to count his points, as his size and mass were unlike any buck I have ever had the opportunity to shoot. I SLOWLY reached for my rifle, and he froze, and looked uphill in my direction. I froze as well, never taking my eyes off him. Eventually he looked downhill and continued walking. When I brought the rifle to my shoulder and removed the scope covers he froze again, looking uphill. It seemed as though he detected (or sensed) my presence, yet he was never able to spot me. After a few nerve racking seconds of "cat and mouse" I was able to take my shot. The shot took out both front shoulders, causing the big buck to drop to his knees. Because of the deep snow and steep terrain he slid, and tumbled down hill like a toboggan. After gathering my wits, organizing my pack, and giving the buck some time to either die, or bed down, I also slid down the hill like a toboggan, in hopes of finding my trophy buck. After finding him, I took a couple short video clips, recording my very special moment, then reached my friends on the radio, asking for some help getting him back to camp. The buck is a 6X7, and his green score is 188 1/8, (gross).

For those who might be critical of me because I have asked that the location of the hunt be kept private, it is out of respect for the hunting friend who invited me to join him on this hunt.
