Someplace on the westside that might have elk too.  Since the muzzy elk and archery deer have about the same dates for late season and I can use a bow during muzzy season.  I can get a two for one  :chuckle: maybe  :dunno:.  I just have to make sure the gmu is the open for muzzy elk.

Like fish, deer and elk taste better when taken from a cold environment. Early season deer and elk just don't taste as good :tung:

Nile and Swakane. Second deer in MT Spokane to fill too.

The first week I will be in my secret deer spot, starts with an "S" has a "K" in the middle and ends with an "E".  The second week I am going to best spot in the whole state for elk, it starts with a "3" has a "2" in the middle and ends with an "8".  I am planning on being all by myself unless someone figures out the code to these hotspots that very few know about.

Lame but satisfying.  When it's pissing rain and 42 degrees outside, I'll be thinking about you and wishing you a speedy late season.

Title: Re: late archery season: Where will you be?
Post by: Rainier10 on October 26, 2012, 09:45:17 AM
Yep, Swakane, the land of 15-20 deer a day all going 170-180 and you can see them from the road. :chuckle: It is tough steep hunting and the snow does make it better but with all of the fires I actually was hoping for a light winter to make it easier on the deer.  By the looks of things the guys with the rifle permits might want to get up there the first couple weeks of November before it does get snowed in.  The archery guys are probably going to have to walk up because you won't be able or want to try to drive up.

Man I can not wait ..but it may be tough because if your a Blacktail hunter the rut will be over for the most part ...Unless you hunt up higher in the cascades then it will be good because those high Mt. bucks will not come down until the snow makes them come down ...I shot my bow tonight at 35 yrds and  back on the rack it went !

I'm still learning a few areas, and will be hunting the west (wet) side.  I've never archery hunted late season  elk, so i'm not sure what to expect.  I'm guessing it's gonna be a spot and stalk game.  Hopefully I can at least spot something!
Deer would be a bonus, Guess i'll be trying for both at the same time!
Good luck everyone!

Quite surprised to see that none have listed the unit I'll be up a tree in: although it is all private in 178.

A couple days invested in fixing fences in June, some smoked salmon and a bottle of Pendelton could put you on some dandy hunting.

I'll be doing JBLM, for a few days, after Turkey Day, and, if my arrows stay clean, I'll be doing 505 and 520.  I'll have the black GMC Yukon with gold trim and a propellar on the back (Pacific Northwet Package).

If I go down there, I'll, most likely, be spending a week, or so.  I have both deer and elk and look to fill the back of my rig with meat.

Now I have a big 4x4 blacktail teasing me.  Hmmmmm... Choices, do I go East for muleys or whities or stay closer to home for a big old blacktail?  Gotta do a lot of thinking over the next few weeks.

I hope this 3x3 starts showing up a bit earlier for my wife's Oregon late season. It is the best buck on cam so far. We have a smaller buck in another spot showing up in the morning. I have to bring the card home to download those pics.

Toutle. Missed the early season because of work now its time to put a cow down!

Saw a herd of about 15 cows grazing this afternoon in the field next to Yale elementary school, second time in a week I've seen them in that area. Think thats part of the Toutle, good luck. Also saw a nice buck about 15 miles further up the road.

Thanks, but this is an Oregon buck and I tagged out early season. I am hoping my wife or close friend takes this guy. He is ripe for the taking.

If I can ever get a deer patterned, I will be hunting Washington's late archery season.

Something about this year is making feel like it is my first year
Excited about late buck is a understatement.Seeing lots of nice deer

The problem is that all of them are just on this side of city limits.
Seems bigger bucks get their degree this time of the year.

I know what I won't be doing thurs, fri, sat thanksgiving weekend....hunting! Heads up to everyone who assumed the late archery opens on thanksgiving like normal, it opens Sunday. I realized earlier this week, 2 guys at work assumed it opened Thursday as well.  Getting those 4 days off from work and catching the rut is half the reason I archery hunt. Might be looking at modern or a different unit next year.

Late season archery.  I might try for a turkey with a bow.  I have never hunted with a bow before but this weekend I hope to change that.  I know it ain't a spring hunt for the big gobbler but if I manage to get close enough for a shot on a winter bird and score I'll be pretty happy.  Hopefully all the rain won't get in the way.

Slight change of plans I think i am going to skip on the toutle cow tag for at least one week end. I saw a  bull running with about 6 cows while hunting deer last week end with the old man. So i think im going to give it hell and see if i cant put some bones in the garage rafters.
