Alright fellow hunters. I haven't ever posted much on this site but do a lot of looking at everyone else's post. Im no stranger to hunting been at it for 20+ years. Just curious what I can expect for bucks up in the entiat during the late season rifle hunt. Im headed up opening weekend to do some scouting and then head back the last 2 weekends to hunt it. I hope to get one bigger then this buck I killed in Oregon last month but I think it will be a tough task to follow. Some guys tell me if you see a buck in the 160s you better think about taking it. Just curious what you fellas think.
-
You see one bigger then that you better shoot....
-
Should be a good year as the weather here in the Wenatchee valley is bad. The higher elevation is getting hit with snow and the bucks should be moving. Definitely not an impossible task to beat that toad, but don't know that I would pass on one that is even close to that.
Good Luck and make sure to post pics with a story.
-
That looks like a great buck  If I saw another of that caliber I would say shoot and mount a double!!
-
Quality buck right there, no way do you pass that one. :twocents:
-
Hey thanks for the advice. You guys are backing up what I already thought anything remotely close to this size will go down. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how it goes. I've been watching the snotel site and seen there has been some higher elevation snow. Should help things out hopefully.
-
Make sure you do a search of the "Entiat" on this site, you will find LOTS of info. Good luck on your hunt.
-
ed your oregon buck is a beast!!!!! hopefully you get a dandy i say anything 160 you should shoot good luck keep me posted. I will be hunting during the same time in oregon hopefully we can drink a beer and compare bucks take lots of pics! glass mud creek and potato creek!!!
-
FYI....Look at this years fire maps. A lot of the North East areas in this GMU burned up this year.
-
I was up there today and it was snowing at Silver Falls. The high country has been getting some serious weather already, this could be a great late hunt this year. Good Luck

:yeah: Snow falling in the high country was our queue to head to Entiat. Should be a great hunt this year.

Not sure I would shoot the first 160 class buck I see with that tag. If you hunt hard and cover some ground you should see some 180 class bucks. I would be patient.
-
Having aready killed a nice buck this year , I'd hold out till the last day for a toad if i was you . that tag dosn't come offten.
-
I'd go 180, and that said, who cares. If you see something you like, its your tag and your hunt. Enjoy it! The deer are dropping from this weather. This should be epic for the late tag holders.
-
if you see one like that then you best squeeze the trigger ... :yeah:
-
With the snow thats been falling there is no way i would shoot the first 160 buck I saw. I went with a buddy that had this tag in 2007 and there was no snow that year and we saw two bucks over 160.
-
edard i was just saying there is nothing wrong with a 160+ buck it all depends on how much time you have and what YOU want! sure people are saying they would hold out for 180 but thats easy to say when they dont have the tag you do. thats like saying if they had a blue mts tag they would hold out for a 380 when there is nothing wrong with a realistic 340+ main thing is just have fun and be safe sometimes we all get caught up in the score and that can take awawy from the hunt just my 2 cents! good luck caint wait to see pics! happy hunting!!!!
-
God tag to have it will be a fun hunt. Not as many big boys as there used to be. Some still there just have to look. Big country.
-
Good luck with your tag. I'll be in the Chiwawa unit Thursday looking for mine this weekend. If that doesn't pan out, I have the 8th-20th sceduled on vac to get it done.

That Chiwawa tag is should be an amazing tag to have this year. Good Luck and cant wait to see pics. I have seen some serious bruisers in there.
-
my bet is a few hogs come out this year , I wish I was holding a tag .
-
Just back from my first weekend of the hunt. It was a pretty quick day in a half of hunting but a good time. We seen 14 bucks on Saturday 3 four points and one 3 point which was the biggest buck we seen all weekend. This morning we seen another 4 point and a 3 point and seen a nice 4 point killed but another hunter, he also said there was a 7x9 killed on Saturday. Anyway can't wait to get back at it next weekend for three days. Some colder weather would be nice but either way it's a great hunt and am sure I will have a good time with friends and family.
-
Thats a great tag to have
Good luck :hello:

-
I know of another nice buck taken, lots to be a banner year over there.
-
My father has a permit in there this year. He retired last year so he's planning on hunting the entire season. I was with him this last weekend. Saw quite a few bucks, nothing to write home about yet. I saw pictures of the buck shot on Friday, the 7x10, and I also thought it was moosey. I will say we saw quite a few 3 1/2-4 1/2 year old deer with good looking genetics. Seemed like they had exceptional back forks or exceptional fronts but havnt came accross one with both yet. Good sized frames 24x22ish seemed to be the norm.
-
After seeing the pics of the 7x10 that was shot on Saturday and Phools pic of Moosy I'm pretty sure he is dead. Amazing mass. Somebody needs to talk to the Yakima boys that got him and get permission to post the pic.

he is a special buck, not the biggest we have killed up there, but he is the most unique. I killed a 8x9 179" buck archery, and i laugh cuz we actually passed this buck up at first, while taking video of him walking over the ridge i decided to go take another look at him and decided with the mass and unique rack that he should take him. definately glad we did, so i have a couple minutes of video of him also, plus the kill on video.
-
Ok new guy enough teasing, post em up. :chuckle:
-
Can't wait to see the video!

Elkbow, you should start a new thread on that deer, shouldnt be jacking Edards thread. Great Buck!!! He should have his own thread!
Good luck on your hunt Edard! That buck should give a little motivation!!

Gonna keep the story short, I don't feel like typing a novel. We spotted this buck on Sat. morning decided to pass on it and go look for others. (Lots of grief from my son Luke for not going after it) . We glassed up 31 other branched bucks that day but none that got me excited. I decided that afternoon to go back and see if would could find him but no luck. Sunday we made a plan to try and find him again in the morning early but still no luck. We left to go look for other deer seen a couple of small bucks pretty slow morning. I was glassing back over where we seen this buck from about 3 miles away and spotted him through my spotting scope and new wright away it was him. We put a plan together stalked in on him, shot him in his bed at 255 yds. Couldn't be happier, glad I was able to share this experience with my kids and good friends. P.S. the video is quite awesome, look for it in a few months on primetime outdoors site.

Awesome buck. Congrats.

Great BUCK!!! I was up in Entiat Sunday doing some scouting for my late season archery tag. Saw three potential shooters out of seven total bucks and one was a monster. I really thought he was an elk at first when I saw him w/naked eyes at about 300 yards. Can't wait to get up there and start hunting on the 21st!
