Title: Truth behind the 270" buck?
Post by: xXLojackXx on October 27, 2012, 09:59:01 PM
I was listening to ESPN outdoor radio today and they were talking about an Okanogan buck shot this year that scored 270-280"?!? Anybody have any truth behind this story, and if so, PICTURES!

Kinda amazing how fast the story of the Winthrop buck is spreading and already changing. I can imagine real soon it will be one of the forwards that people get on their phones or email that talks about a cousin's neighbor's best friend's brother in law and son shot a possible state record mulie in 6 different GMUs and counties. May even end up being a cascade blacktail at some point.  :chuckle:

I heard it was shot by one of the guys at works sisters boyfriends stepdads great uncles brothers son over by riffe lake. The text said that the guy was actually fishing off the bridge with his son and the deer walked out on the bank so the guy casted out and snagged the deer and began fighting h while the son ran back to the truck and grabbed an old .243 with a bent barrel, no sight, and broken stock. By the time he got there, the deer had drug his dad over the bridge into the water and was pulling him up the lake. The boy then bummed a ride from a random boat and began to chase them down, it was no use so he made a 666 yard hail mary shot  that ended up being a perfect texas heart shot. Boom 270in buck down. I saw the pic and text, has to be true :chuckle:

Probably didn't happen. But are there those who think its impossible? Although mostly because we kill all the little ones due to population, and a lot of the big ones get poached, our state does have incredible genetics for all species.

^^I think all deer hunting should be permit only with how many hunters are out there. Its incredibly hard for the small bucks to make it through the seasons to be a quality buck. I talked to the guys at Owens Meats when I picked up my elk yesterday, they said they had over 200 deer come in this year, none of which were big bucks.

I guess it's a matter of perspective.  I saw more big bucks this year than I have in a very long time.  The dry weather, the fires, etc all had an effect on what everyone saw this year I think.
