Title: New to area
Post by: stvnsnwdy on October 28, 2012, 02:26:29 PM: Need some help from the season veterans in the area. I have just moved to the Northwest area. I have always hunted in the Midwest and South. Could use some help getting familiar with this area. I have purchased Western Elk tags, after finding out the best areas are on the eastern side, can someone point to some good areas around for Elk.

Post by: Huntbear on October 28, 2012, 02:38:19 PM: Get you some maps.. I would suggest the Mt. St. Helens area, plenty of open ground to hunt, plenty of closed roads to hike in... lots of elk.

Post by: Angus on October 28, 2012, 04:48:10 PM: I've deer hunted the last 3 weekends in the Coweeman unit, I've seen more elk then deer, after wasting early archery elk there in 80-90 degree temps then total closure of the unit due to fire danger I really wish I had a modern rifle tag for it now.
