Title: Palouse Tag Holders - Too Bad!
Post by: fly4fish on November 01, 2012, 10:14:51 AM
I can't be 100% sure how true on the where abouts, but here is the info I recieved in a text message sent to me from my bother (Shawn):

"Shawn, this pic was sent to me yesterday by an installer that works for me.  Road kill by Colfax."

Was this pic really taken by Colfax? I don't know. Can anybody identify those yellow lines or the broken white line?  It looks like an eye guard and g2 were broken off in the collision. Even worse,  the Buck's life was taken and now the meat will be wasted; not to mention where will the rack will end up?

Countryboy,

Thank you for verifying the information.  That is a really neat buck.  Your dad is lucky to have been able to see it, even if it was dead on the road.  I wonder how long those antlers stayed attached to the head?  Tell your Dad thanks for sharing.  Amazing how  quick "a million words" can be spread these days.

Now this is a nice WT.  What a shame that he has to go like this!  Whatever hit him, I bet he made some damage with his rack!

Wow.  Looks like he was old enough to spread his genes around a bit though.  Tough break for whoever thought they had him all tied up for the late season though... :(

I posted this picture on here 2 years ago. I was told by my dad that it was killed in upstate NY near where he lives. Let me see if I can find it.

Well, I guess someone is full of it.  But look on the bright side, there's a big buck near a cemetery somewhere.  I know where I'd heading if I had a Palouse Tag.

I had forwarded that pic to a couple guys I know with McGregor down there asking if they had heard anything about it.  One responded "That is one huge whitetail.  Now, where did it REALLY get hit?"

This is awesome! My dad was just in Colfax on Tuesday working on a persons internet and said the big cemetery boy was just eating the shrubs in the yard and hanging out with the house cat! He was only about 40 yds away. He's still alive and well! I have a pic of another VERY LARGE whitetail buck on the opposite side of the canyon but he was poached by someone last winter. Good genetics and alot of food in all those backyards... If ya ask me he doesn't need to be shot. LET HIM LIVE!!! LOL! :chuckle:

No, look at the link posted by Bluebulls.  Jackalope posted this almost a year ago.  It's a roadkill from upstate New York.

130" would be very generous for the typical buck with the late Palouse tag.  Although there was a 160" WT buck shot opening morning that I saw and held with my very own hands.  Very few bucks in Whitman county reach full maturity/potential.  Just my  :twocents:

Definitely property dependent, much of the best is off-limits and not hunted much, if at all.   There have been 170" plus whitetails the last several years in Whitman country, but you won't see them on here.

If you draw a tag and aren't local, you won't get to hunt those bucks.  If you are local, you most likely won't get to hunt those bucks.... :chuckle:

Very much so. Whitman county gets 5 mentions (of the 393 entries) in the typical rifle category in the lastest WA book, the biggest being a 156" buck from 1999. Granted, there are a lot of people who couldn't give a rip about the WA books and don't enter anything. Just a reference point. I have seen pictures of one legitimate giant whitetail that came out of the general rifle down there in the last couple years. Not doubting that there are giants out there, somewhere...jj is probably right, though those properties aren't anywhere near commonplace.
