Went on a pack trip this weekend and we got snowed on! Two weeks ago it was 110 degrees and this time it was 28 and snowing at 6000 ft. I'll post some pics when I can get to a computer that isn't dial-up. It was a good trip though, multiple bulls bugling and found 6 wallows. Looks like we'll be back to the heat wave for the opener!

I heard it was snowing where we were going in Montana. Hope the bulls are singing.
-
Were did you go?
-
can't wait to see some picks and get some info on the scouting trip.
-
Looking forward to some pics. Did you backpack or use ponies?

Went up to do a little scouting For my Peaches Ridge archery tag and it snowed saturday afternoon until Sunday night in the Norse Peak at about 6200 feet, actually hiked out a day early cause visability was about 50 feet!Let's just say that can't wait until opener, don't always have to see what is happening as long as you have your ears open!

wahoundsman sounds like we had the same thing on the brain! Here are a couple pics while riding. I took my girlfriend this time and my buddy with his mules.

Here's one of the 6 wallows I found :IBCOOL: and one of the basins we rode to! We stayed there for 2 hours hoping it would clear up. After a nice fire we decided to go back to camp. When we got back it was pouring down rain so we decided to head out. Found 10 times more sign than last time I was there and even heard a couple hair raising sounds! Cut it one day short but it was worth the warm shower even if we didn't get home till 12:30 am! I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Hopefully I'll be posting pics on the 10th ;) Thanks for all the help guys!

nice pics. did you make it to the basin that we talked about?

Skinner,
Wrote ya a PM.

Skinner, You never know in that country! We got snow last year as well. Great looking pics, I especially like the fact that your girlfriend is smiling, that's a sure sign of a keeper. My wifes break-in hunt was a goose hunt on the Columbia in a wind and sleet storm. I figured if she put up with that she'll put up with anything, KEEPER!
Good luck on the hunt!

SMILING? Looks like more of a grimace to me!!

Looks like you're in the right area!!! I'm pretty sure I know where ya at and that's a great area... this year it looks to be a helluva lot better than last year... it was hot as hell last year and it seems like with this early fall we're having the bulls are sure talking. During my hunt last year they'd bugle for the first 10-20 minutes of light then shutup for the day and you wouldn't hear 'em until right at dark again... Good luck!!!

Skinner - Nice pictures. I also have the Peaches Ridge tag only it's for Modern. I can hardly wait for my season to get here. I'm familiar with the lower part of 346 (Bald Mtn) but I've never explored 336.
Do you think I should head for higher ground? I realize it's weather dependent. I've been up once already, but the weekend I went it was 90 degrees and not much moving. Good luck with your tag!

Beautiful pictures Skinner, sure wish the Coweeman Unit was like that.......
-
You see any elk in that great weather you encountered?
-
Yup, I'm pretty sure i know exactly where you were standing when you took that last picture. Has anyone been there just recently? I'm curious if there is snow right now with the cool weather we've been having.

Great pics!!! Thanks for posting them!!!!

No snow there now! Its pretty hot especially walking it.
Bear- too many people up there! I hunted close, must have got the one they pushed to me.
Opportunist- definatley helps that she likes going, but still doesn't keep her from nagging on me when I'm gone for "weeks at a time" She's a keeper though!
Yakimacoug- not sure about the rifle hunt I haven't been in that area that time of year. Don't want to steer ya in the wrong direction.
Teacherman- I was surprised they were bugling while it was snowing. Not using the wallows of course though.
All in all it is a pretty cool area. I plan on going back on some fishing trips. I want to get in and explore those lakes.
