Title: CZ Bobwhite on ducks
Post by: AWS on November 04, 2012, 03:52:23 PM
Picked up a CZ Bobwhite 20ga last spring for shooting steel at ducks.  Been out in MT hunting birds for the past couple of weeks so my duck season started friday and have gone out and just sat on the shore with a couple of deeks.  Picked up a pintail Friday and a teal, widgeon, and mallard today.  The little CZ is working out just fine, 7/8oz of 4 steel knocks them right down.  The fit and finish on it is beautiful, case colour frame and deep blue on the barrels, wonder how long I can keep it like that out on the salt.  Have it in front of the stove drying out right now.

incredible guns for the money IMO. I had a CZ bobwhite in 28 gauge a when they first came out and it was a great gun, I regret moving it along, even though the one I had was a little shorter barreled than I like.

I have often thought about getting a 12 for duck hunting, gotta love those double triggers!

Having hunted the salt a bunch, I would bring an oily rag along and just wipe it down occasionally while out in the field.  If you are not getting spray on it and cleaning it when you return home, you shouldn't have any problems.

I use a rag soaked in silicone spray, I keep it in a jam jar in my truck and wipe my guns down before and after a hunt.

if I ever got that 12 gauge bobwhite I think I would spray with duracote and just be done with it.

I just wash gun with warm water.  I use a steam cleaner but have also just washed it and soaked it in the tub.  soap and water will clean salt much better than oil or silicon.  after washing salt, apply oil and/or silicon but to remove it, warm water.   :twocents:

There is also a product called Gun Sheath or Rust Sheath or something that I have used which provides a really good protective layer.

All of my blued guns that see salt water action get wiped down with CorrosionX first. When I get home they get rinsed well in the hot shower with me. Buly the time I'm done with my shower they are mostly dry. Quick spray off with the air compressor and wipe again with CorrosionX.  Never had one rust yet.

One last thing. Don't put a wet gun in a case after a saltwater hunt or your sure to rust it.
