Dumb?... Really?
Define Dumb:
-
:lol4: I don't think dumb is the right word!
-
Insane, hard, crazy, tough, sure but only dumb if you've got something better to do.... :chuckle:
-
Been a few times I kinda thought the whole business was kinda dumb.... :chuckle:
-
Elk Meat is good eats.. :cue:
-
Hopefully you are not applying for special hunt tags, because those of us who enjoy it would appreciate less competition.
-
Don't really think he means it in the most literal sense. Prolly just frustrated.

:yeah: Maybe he/ they road hunted and target practice today..
HUH!
-
I am indeed mystified how road hunting came into the discussion.

cow elk in 154 are the 2012 hide-and-seek champions! :o
6 days of hunting, only spotted 5 elk. all on hostile ground and singles with one cow/calf combo. weren't even seeing many deer. very weird. the ground we had access to had no fresh sign newer than a couple of weeks. our hot-dog spot near the shed hasn't had elk since summer, according to the sign! :yike:
strangest elk season i've seen. no deer, no elk, only 1 coyote. there's usually some elk in the canyon behind my dad's place during spring/summer, but not this year. my dad didn't fill his old man doe tag, either! :yike: :bash: sure, he could have shot one that he feeds in the pasture, but that's not much fun.
so along with his doe tag, he's eating his cow tag. >:( :bash:
hence, elk hunting is dumb. ;)
-
we road hunted some, he's almost 70 after all ;). but we ran every inch of the ground we have access to, too. we hunted high, hunted low, hunted thick, thin, in/out, up/down...

There's always another day.. Yall did have fun though right?
-
oh yeah, fun was had, but his hunting days are getting numbered. we gave it hell for 6 days, and i hope we can do the same next year!

Can you say wolf!!!!!
-
sounds like a successful trip to me. Can't beat quality time with family.
-
I feel you... Was 65 degrees out yesterday when I got back to my car... Didn't see a single animal.. I hiked 26 miles total this weekend, and through some of the worst brush and timber... And saw one deer and a frog all weekend. Definitely a weird season this year. Opening morning usually sounds like a war zone when it gets light out where I hunt. This year, and 1 set of shots from the same person, and and asking around it doesn't even sound like he got anything. I think space aliens come abduct all the elk the night of the 2nd and then return them after the season... That's the only logical explanation for the fact that there were elk somewhere one day, and then no where to be found for 20 miles 12hrs later.

Anytime you can get out into the field and hunt with family is a good hunt no matter if you fill your tag or not.
Anytime you can get out and hunt is a good time....sure beats doing chores around the farm!
-
Someday you will not be able to hunt with your Dad. Cherish every day you have with him. I lost my Dad when he was 47 in 1962. Long time ago.
-
I hate to say it, but it is hunting, not killing. Some years just suck but that makes the years that you are successful awesome!
It sounds like a cat (or wolf) to me, we hunt the same hillside every year and there are ALWAYS elk there. This year the elk were holding up about two canyons away and the deer and elk didn't hang out where they usually do. During a buddy's bull hunt he killed a cougar on that hillside. By the time modern elk rolled around the hillside was full of elk again. Time to do some predator hunting.

Sounds like hunting to me???

The title of this thread cracked me up. Not 1 year goes by where be it elk hunting, deer hunting, etc .... it gets referred to as dumb at least one evening in our camp :chuckle:
-
that is all. :bash: :bash:
:chuckle: You probably haven't been elk hunting very long if that thought hasn't crossed your mind at some point. It's only dangerous if it stays there. Fortunately, my memory is short and I forget how cold, wet, miserable, tired, discouraged I am about 10 minutes after I get warm or get some food in me. Then I can't wait to go again.
-
Teanaway unit was nearly bare of animals this year... I personally blame it on the Teanaway Wolf Pack. Too bad there needs to be something like, 12 more bredding pairs before we can start thinning them out huh.... Damn Wolves!
-
I would re post the thread title. How about "Had an amazing time with the ol man"?
-

:yeah:
Tag soup for me! But saw elk, gonna get gearing up for next year! Each year for me gets better. My opportunity will come knocking when my time is right!!

Good attitude, that's how I feel! Best of luck to ya!

Thanks! I'm just glad to see animals. Being out there only gives a chance to harvest. It's about the hunt to me. Although harvesting an animal sure would be nice. 8)
-
Fake boobs are dumb , But I still like them !
-
Elk hunting can be a blast. Those outside of the elk hunting community may think it's dumb that we harvest an animal miles off a road and pack it all the way out on our backs. I can understand their view on it as I am usually sore for a weeks plus. I still have tingling in my right hand from the last pack out. A little nerve damage I think.

he should use this as the title :chuckle: :chuckle:
and I agree elk hunting is totally dumb ( I didn't get to this year :bash:)
-
It's only dumb when you get skunked.
-
Am I the only one that got the humor of the thread title?
-
It's not dumb....it's stupid.
-
Am I the only one that got the humor of the thread title?
:chuckle:  glad someone did!
one of the hardest things i find about going back to work after a week with the old man and his buddies in the mountains is readjusting how i talk. when you're around the office, it's no more motherf-er this and c*ck-s*cker that... :yike: :chuckle: can't wait for next year!
-
my seven year old told us we should go hunt the thick sh-t ! one year . OPPPS.

nope :chuckle: :chuckle:

The title might be humorous but there isn't anything more deadly serious than the quote below:
Fake boobs are dumb , But I still like them !
-
If you can touch 'em they are all real. Just saying....

Boobies and elk hunting in the same thread.

thats like a trifecta ;)

We saw In excess of 120 elk, many extremely huge bulls, several elk called in as close as 10 feet, 4 shooters which my brother pasted one and nephew missed three, everyone home safe, 1/3 elk in everyones freezers anyway again this year ... good trip for us once again. It just doesn't get any better, but would be interested in how you call in some of those boobies. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
