So I have to ask. How many of you guys hunt with an arm guard?
I don't feel like I need it very often but once my arm gets tired I tend to slap it with the string. Only once each day and it hurts bad enough I hold good form the rest of the time.
-
Nope....not for that reason. One of my jackets has a "guard" to keep the fabric out of the way.
-
Your arm gets tired at the range so you wear an arm guard. That's cool, I get it. How many times do you shoot while hunting? Just sayin'
-
nope. dont need it
-
I only shoot about 30 arrows per practice session. I'm not an expert but fancy myself a good shot, and I tend to think that if you're so worn out that you know your form is suffering, its time to hang it up for the day. :twocents:

:yeah:
Why keep shooting if your accuracy is gonna just go down because you are fatigued.
No guard for me.

I have one i wear with a jacket to keep my sleeve from interfering with the string.
-
I don't need to but wear it anyway during practice and hunting. It's not going to hurt wearing one or cause the chance of a life time.
-
Used one when I first started shooting but now I never use it. I forget that I have it most of the time.
-
Well my opinion has been I don't need one because I only hit it once in a while and only if I shoot a bunch. My accuracy doesn't diminish just tend to slap my arm. But in theory I should only shoot one arrow when hunting. At least that's the plan.

Me too.

Same here, why risk an errant fold of a sleeve?

sounds like your shooting too much :dunno:
i only shoot two arrows at a time and maybe 30 arrows in one day
focus on form and make every shot count, really imagine that world record every time you let one loose :twocents:
and maybe your draw length is a tad to long :dunno: :dunno:
late season its def nice to have something to keep those puffy coats compressed

That is when I wear mine, for the past week and up until the hunt I shoot 9 arrows a night with my hunting coat, arm guard, back pack, binos, gloves and hat on just to make sure my form is good with what I will actually be wearing for the hunt.
-
i always use one, i missed a nice bull due to not having one on and hit my sleeve on a summer shirt. why take a chance and it might save you from a sore forearm, goodluck!

Might sound a little funny. I use an old sock to hold my jacket and under layers out of the way on my shooting arm. They are green and add to the camouflage.

I wear an arm guard every time I hunt if it's cold enough for a jacket. You only get one chance if you're lucky so why chance having your string hit your sleeve causing a miss or worse - a bad hit???
-
Thanks guys. I think I will grab one to help hold the sleeve down.
-
No kidding....you only got one chance to stick one...why mess that chance up....
Excellent advice....I think I am going to pick one up myself.
-
Like everyone else, I always wear mine. Shot without it once, left a huge bruise and missed the target.
-
Started out wearing one, but found I didn't need it anymore, when my form started getting like it was supposed to, but, after reading some of the replys, here, I believe I will be getting me a new one. the idea of my sleeve causing a bad shot doesn't sound too appealing, to me.

That's what I do as well. I do, however, get some pretty smart-alec remarks when I yell "Honey, have you seen my old sock? It's that time again and I need it!" :chuckle:
-
I normally don't need one.
-
Most of the year I don't wear mine but as the weather gets colder or if I"m wearing a rain coat for a 3-D shoot or something, then I wear my arm guard. Hunting - like I said earlier - ALWAYS. Sometimes a weird shooting angle could cause your string to hit your arm slightly but if you're wearing your arm guard, the string simply glances off with the arrow staying mostly on target. Like I said: You only get one chance.

:yeah:
Just to kkep the jacket sleeve out of the way
-
Thanks for the input guys!

Practice = no guard
Early season short sleeve = no guard
Late season bundled up with heavy clothing = guard to keep sleeves tight.
Men have a natural bend to their arm, so most guys don't need it.
If you have good form and are consistent, you should not need one.

That about sums it up for me too.

It's not a fashion show out there if it works for you use it :twocents:

I use one to keep my coat sleeve out of the way.
-
By the way don't forget to practice with the coat that you're going to be hunting with and the armguard if you're going to use it to make sure it all works before you get out there and have An animal in front of you
-
I use one to keep the cold weather clothes out of the way, and even short sleeve to keep the bruising off my forearm. I am shooting an longbow and I get "bitten" more than I would like when I am to lazy to put one on for a quick arrow or two in the evening.

Do all that. Thanks.

The under armour jacket I just picked up has a drawstring to tighten the material in the forearm, presumably to keep it out of your bow string.
