Zambiahttp://I went with a coworker and his boy this morning for his late tag. He drew a tag with only 1 point and has never shot a buck, he was in for a surprise! We saw a few good bucks and one buck he tried to shoot, a nice 165 class buck with split g2's, but it did not work out. I told him the season is early and there will be more bucks to chase and more there was. I spotted this buck beaded down around 1500 yards down in a big hole and the stalk was on. One look the buck tghrue the spotter and he was all over it. We cut it down to 375 yards and there was no getting closer to this deer he was bedded perfect surounded by does. One shot the deer never moved out of his bed, it was such a sweet moment! After 2 hours deboning and cleaning and a mile hike out he is one happy kid and we were both tired of packing that beast out, he had his first WA buck and it will be hard to beat. I rough scored it when they were making a trip to get pack frames and came up with around 178-181" frame with 13" of extra he will gross around 190's.
I hope you enjoy the pics, I was very impressed with this kids ability to shoot long range!
I think he had 1 happy dad with that shot and his buck he held his composure pretty darn good. I was glad to help them out on a fun but short hunt!
My score is probably off but swell I am not a good score guy I still think it will gross in the upper180 sumewere

-
Sweet buck, congrats.
-
Poor kid is ruined forever! :chuckle: A true trophy, congrats.
-
WOW!! :yike: what a first deer that might be a tough buck to ever beat!! congrats
-
Its official, Rolly (wildlife creations) scored it last night of course its still got the drying period, but it grossed 187 and netted mid 170's. They are gunna enter it in wa book for his age group 14 yaers old! The extra kicker sure did ruin the score, but I would much rather have the trash than a good net score. Nets are for fishing!
-
Incredible buck!!!
-
Hell of a buck!!!! Specially for a first... :yike: Everyone he see's from now on is gonna be a dink!!! :chuckle: Congrats!!!
-
What am I going to hunt his honey hole for migratory mule deer during general season while the deer aren't even down? Its a great deer but not going to change the way I put in for my tags EVERY year.
-
Congrats to the youngster. Monster of a muley. He's ruined now. Hard to beat it.

-
Awesome buck and very nice of you to help the young hunter out...good points coming your way for that!
-
Holy carp, what a great looking buck. Congrats to the young man!
-
Nicely done Shad, on an exceptional buck too!
For those asking what permit area it came from...REALLY! :bash: Just enjoy the story and pics!!!
-
I know exactly where it was. It was the area that I didn't have a permit for and maybe didn't apply for. And it doesn't matter what tag it was because that deer isn't going to be there anymore anyways. Enjoy the pics, be happy for the kid and keep putting in for the areas that you always have and know so you have a chance at getting a big deer. It's not like this area is full of 178" deer. My guess is there are 178" deer in at least 6 different quality areas and you can only put in for two so go with what you know, not an area that you saw one big deer taken from that you have never been to.

OK, here is the deal with asking about units on the internet. Thousands of people view this site, not just you. If you ask about a spot for the general season, and it actually posts on the net, chances are it will be swarmed when you get there next year. If you ask about a unit that was a special draw tag, you will experience roughly the same thing; except that instead of having an extra 15 or 20 people in "your spot", there will be an extra 15 or 20 people (likely more actually) that will be putting in for the tag and thereby reducing the chances of you drawing. Either way, no one wants their spot posted on a public forum.

:yeah:
It is not just the guy asking the question it is the other 400 people reading the response.
-
you guys all say ruined, i say that it is more motivation to push harder and find mature deer. keep the passion alive and not just settle for the first deer he sees each year. i think its great he got to experience that asa young man. he will want to get that addrenaline and feeling back year after year, its what keeps all of us going back. congrats on an extremely beautiful deer bud. i hope you continue to have more for us in the future
-
Well its official, the buck grossed 196 non typ. net non typ 193, and net typ was 176. He is 14 yo and he should make #1 in WA state book for his age group. The buck was scored by a local official here in town.
-
I missed this one. Saweet buck!!
-
Awesome buck!
-
What difference does it make if they reveal the GMU. It was a SPECIAL DRAW PERMIT. I don't get it? If is was killed where most are assuming it was. I don't think it is much of an un-kept internet secret. Just read the game laws and you can see that 4500 people apply there every year on avg. The surrounding GMUs get plenty of applications as well. Nice buck!

Plain and simple , mind your own buisness .... geez. Its no different than asking a guy how his woman is in bed....
Thats a great buck, especially for a 14 year old. Congrats to him!!

Well, if your gonna post pics of your wife online you should expect someone to ask what her measurements are or maybe where you found her. This is a public forum and the deer was posted here. I think it is a reasonalbe question to ask....doesn't mean that OP has to answer... :twocents:
By they way, I know the GMU so I just post this as a matter of principal....If you don't like someone asking don't post it for other to be curious....or just don't answer their question. However, don't get but hurt when they do ask.

Anyone that posts a trophy online is going to get asked what GMU it came from. Especially when they say it was a special draw permit. And for the record; I did not ask. I asked what the big deal was for revealing it.
Perhaps they should not be bragging online about the kids deer, if they don't want to answer questions. Just saying...

What a buck. How did I miss this thread! :)

I must have missed this one. Congratulations to the young hunter who is not spoiled in my book. I don't need to know the unit either. I shot a 145 class mulie during the general season in 2004 and mounted it. I wondered at the time if it was worth it and I'm glad I did. I haven't shot a better mulie since. Really awesome to be that high up on score for his age. I'd be a proud parent!!
-
All GMU drama aside, that is one STUD of a buck.
I've not seen one that size with a tag in my pocket, and I've chased mulies for a lot of years.
P.S. Mind telling me where you shot it. Just PM me the GMU and general area therein...... ;)
-
Congrats to the hunter! That is a heck of a buck!
-
Very nice deer, congrats to the young hunter! Thanks for letting us see the monster!
-
What unit was that in?
-
Notellum unit, just enjoy the pics, and yes this 14 yo probably has gotten a bigger deer than you or will ever get. That's life so deal with it, there haves and have nots, life isn't fair.
Congrats on a buck of a lifetime dude, enjoy it!
-
Nice buck kid,it's all downhill from here,My cousins kid shot his very first elk this year, drew the only youth non resident elk tag in utah,he's 13 and his bull scored 307,the headgear on the animal was taller than him and he could barely reach wide enough to hold it for a pic.
-
Great story and great buck, congrats to all who had the opportunity to experience it.
-
Nice buck for the kid! I love seening big mulies like that!
Who cares what unit it was shot? Why does everyone want to know where it was shot?
Here is a tip! He knew where he wanted to hunt, put in for it, got drawn, scouted(put his boots to use), got out of his truck, hiked around didn't shoot the first legal buck he saw, waited and found a big buck and shot it.
Your chances are better if you just hunt the areas you know really hard and scout alot! If you don't think putting the unit drawn on the internet changes the draw the next year you're crazy it absolutely does. Another thing it does is get the guys that put in for an area they know nothing about then they draw it and then don't hunt it because they don't know where to go because they didn't scout it. Then we all get pissed at them and say put some leather on the ground or why you put in for it!
Anyways great buck and cool pictures!
-
Right on, nice buck! Nice shot also.
