Are any of you guys using hearing protection while hunting ducks or geese? If so, what are you using? I've been looking at all the different options there are and haven't narrowed it down much yet. Thanks

my son wears ear muffs with the voice enhancing thing when he hunts......but he is already hearing impaired so dont need more damage....and he likes them
-
I got spoiled last Christmas and got a very nice pair of ear muffs (Gold something 300 series or something :dunno: :chuckle: ). I really like them, and they keep my ears warm when it is 20 degrees 8)

ALWAYS USE PROTECTION!!!!! you dont want to get tinnitus like i have, constant ringing in my ear all the time..
-
Wish I would have used protection back when I used to hunt ducks all the time. (My probably wishes I would have too, since I'm always asking "hey what did they say?"........ ;)

I have to use something to soften the noise but I hate earmuffs and really don't care for ear plugs since all I can hear is my own breathing. what I have been doing for a while now is cutting an ear plug in half (discard the narrow end) and use that in my left ear, and then I put a wad of paper towel in my right - reverse if your a lefty.
I can still hear wings whistle, people talk, and pheasants flush- but 10 or 12 gauge blasts are tolerable.
that being said my ears are already plenty damaged from not using protection, so I don't know if the above system will work for you. If I don't use that as at least minimal protection I get tremendous earaches and migrains after a day of duck hunting.
oh yeah... longer barrels aren't just cool, they save your ears too.

I am not good about it, but make sure the kids do

What

Not often enough... When I do it's Surefire Earpro's though. I wear hearing protection religiously when busting clays or when using heavy equipment, but when in the field I just can't stand not being able to hear my surroundings.

I have earmuffs that amplify sound until a shot goes off then it deadens the noise. Not sure the brand but they really help.

I use Walker Game ears when hunting. They just go right over your ear like a headset and cut out the noise when you shoot. They are expensive but what is the price of hearing? Whenever I am pheasant hunting or duck hunting I wear them. I also wear eye protection too. Particularly when I am out at the release sites.
If you want some that are earmuff in style and that you can use on the range and probably hunt with. Look at Peltors. I have a few pairs of those for the range and they are really nice.

Thanks everone, I think it's going to be between Walkers Game Ear or Pro Ears. Just not sure if I want BTE or earmuffs.

If you have a big noggin the muffs might pinch and be irritable after a while. They also tend to make you sweat around the ears more when the weather is warm.
Again, I have both. But I only used the muffs for the range. Over the ears takes up little room in your gear and less prone to taking it off as they are lighter and don't pinch. Just don't set them down, put them in your pocket or they could be lost or fall in the water.
