Title: Yakama Nations?
Post by: lockjaw on November 14, 2012, 07:08:12 PM: Hey all, I'm new to WA and the Tri-Cities. Wrapping up my resident hunting season in Idaho and looking for places to hunt around Tri-Cities. Everything seems to be private... How is the Yakima Rez for upland game? Was thinking about buying a permit next year and hunting it.

I am wrapping up work in Idaho and when I am down there its usually a week at a time, so I still hunt Idaho as my last year as a resident. Plus its probably not right having resident licenses in two states. :dunno:

They have their own seasons and limits as well. WA state hunting license does you no good on the reservation, and vice versa, the reservation license means nothing off of the reservation.

Cool. I wasn't sure if it was a sovereign thing or a state wma type of thing.

GOOD POINT...... Does that apply to ducks as well?

Different limits? On what? Pheasant and duck limits are that same as white man land. What else is there to hunt on the rez? And yes, you do need a duck stamp.

I usually spend my time chasing pheasant and quail, but lately I have found some pretty good areas for chukar and huns so I have been chasing them around.

Post by: 270Shooter on November 14, 2012, 10:14:15 PM: Some of their upland seasons differ slightly from the state regs. All you need is a reservation permit to hunt upland birds down there. For waterfowl you will need a duck stamp also. And if you are planning on hunting the Toppenish Wildlife Refuge I believe you would need the State migratory bird validation as well because it is a federally managed unit.

I looked the other way, because there were so many birds. Then my dog ended up with 7 stitches in his pad after he met up with some broken glass. Will I be back? Probably, but I'm covering his feet.

Post by: jplmyers on November 29, 2012, 06:04:41 PM: It's not all areas. One area was really bad but had a ton of birds. Another was not so bad, but I didn't hit as many coveys. Generally the trash is centered around the entrances and immediately inside... You have to think, this person was too lazy to do the right thing, they probably weren't terribly motivated to pack or drive it in very far. Not all areas were as bad as the area where my dig got hurt.

Post by: gundogr on November 29, 2012, 09:40:51 PM: Just need to go to the hardware store and buy a permit ($25 or $45 don't remember from last year). And they have maps where you can hunt. I got some birds up towards the foothills but just watch and drive around. It is fairly well marked mostly.
