Title: Are you kidding me!
Post by: bwhntr350 on November 15, 2012, 06:37:12 PM
That is the exact words that came out of my mouth when I seen what my wife had done, lol.

We headed up into Hancock property this morning with a friend behind us in his rig and his two kids. Only the kids still had tags. Promptly, in the headlights, a nice 3 point crossed the road. Reprod all around so we just kept going up to where we seen a couple bucks, one on Oct. 31, in the headlights but still legal shooting hours, and the other, a smaller 2-point, on the Friday before general bull started.

We stopped short and I talked to my buddy who had not been in this area before about the plan that I devised. He headed down to the big portion of the clear cut while my wife and I stopped at the head of a spur.

Wifey and I split up. My intent was to hunt a clearcut off the right hand spur and then walk down through it the timber and then continue hunting while she wanted to hunt the timber patch bordering her clear cut, the same area that we had seen the two bucks, previously.

I had came back up to the truck right around 9:30. I opened the back door to my truck to throw my pack in there and I heard "BOOM", and not far away. I thought "That has to be her", I could see most the other roads in the bigger clear cut and there was nobody out there. I took off in my truck, down the road. I find her on the edge of this muddy crud between some brush piles that were stacked up. She was waving me down to her. I thought "What the heck, did she hit a deer and it ran off, or what".

I get down there with my window rolled down and she is standing by this buck. I said "Are you kidding me"!

She is smiles from ear to ear. This is her second year hunting and the first living creature that she has ever had in her cross hairs. She made the shot count with my Ruger Frontier in .308.

One dead dear, one very happy husband, and one ecstatic wife. She is on cloud nine.

Ran into, I think he said "Gotshot", from these forums. He helped us load the buck up so a "Great Big Thank You" , for that

Right afterwards, while driving out, I ran into my buddy. He and his boys not only seen the 3 point in the road with us, but also two other big bucks, neither of which they could get a shot at.

My wife's buck was shot at 9:30 and appeared to be alone.

I would love to have her post her version and I have no doubt that she would, but, the word "road" may come up and I am not sure that we want to subject ourselves to the criticism 8)

This is the wifey....
Thank you for all the compliments. My husband is awesome to say the least. He had me practicing Sunday, at the range, how to shoot off hand and different positions. When it was time to shoot, I sat my butt down and put my knees up, aimed and shot. Still excited today. Thankful I got this opportunity and thankful I am finished. For the record, I never hesitated and I was nothing but excited. Not the squimish type either.

Love that I'm "a *censored*" I'll take that any day.

Unfortunately, I will be working on Friday and back out there on Saturday. I, suppose, that you will not be reading this until you get in on Friday night, but good luck to you and your wife! Thanks again!

Thats an interesting gun, I don't think I've ever seen a scope mounted that far forward.

Yeah, it is pretty much a Scout rifle. This is one that Ruger came out with a few years back. It is discontinued, now, they have another version out that I would love to get, but this one gets the job done. It, believe, weighs 5 1/2 pounds and has a 16 1/2 barrel. 2 1/2 power Leupold, forward mounted. I bought it for hunting the brush.

My buddy got me into these scout type guns. The thought behind it is you throw the gun up, both eyes remain open, and you kind of just automatically aim. MY friend, same guy, practiced his at a range that had a 100 yard gong. He would stand there off hand and throw that gun up and shoot, just like that, and hit that 8" gong 4 out of 5 times, all day long, and his shots were so fast because it was so natural, almost just like looking at the target, just happened to be a scope in between.

Thanks for all the "Congrats" on here. I know that I get complacent when posting compliments, at times, and this means a lot to my wife that so many of you took the time to say a few words.

Here is a "as it lies" photo which really shows the swollen neck.

The only weight that we got was at the butcher. No head, guts, hide, or lower legs, just meat and bones it was a respectful 120 pounds.
