Title: grouse near chewlah loon lake area?
Post by: EARLEYRISER on September 04, 2008, 08:18:40 PM: I am new to the hunting grouse and was out near chewlah around 49 degrees north and didnt see a single bird? was i in the wrong area? if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction as where to go it would be gladly appreciated. :bow:

I have a lab mix but he is afraid of gunfire i havent shot around him enough to take him with me yet so im flying solo.

Post by: DeKuma on September 04, 2008, 09:48:23 PM: Other than the ones right on my property, I have taken most by driving the more overgrown roads and jumping them. Watch where they land and focus around there. If the road is abandoned and not a county maintained road, it is legal to shoot them there, but not truly ethical unless you are assured of your background.
Some of the bigger ones I got last year were out in the grass off of the sides of the road up Sand Canyon. Shot two right in the first big campground area out in the middle of all that grass.

Back to grouse.

The people that use dogs, do you guys just walk the forest roads with the dogs and let them find the birds? Or do you try to walk the water sources and such?
