A CLOSE-UP OF THE AMAZING MOUNT OF RICK HAYES' MASON COUNTY BUCK (LEFT) AND THE BLACKTAIL IT FOUGHT TO THE DEATH WITH BEFORE HAYES CAME ALONG IN 2008. (RICK HAYES) -nwsportsmanmag.com
For everybody who didn't have the pleasure of seeing this story in the Mason County journal a few years back, enjoy. Here's some evidence that rattling could indeed be very effective for blacktails. Also, I wouldn't doubt it if these two were brothers, look at he similarities of the horns.

Did you go to Pioneer school? lol I think so.

Cool ..the part I like about this mount is how he captured the death of the one buck ...See how the one alive has brown eyes and the dead one has blue eyes , that's exactly what they look like once they are dead for awhile ..

Drive past it every day. I hunt the back side of it sometimes. The place I go is about 1000ft from their property.
-
nice mount but, where the hell would you put that in your house? that gotta take up at least 7'X10' i dont have room for that. once in a lifetime find for sure though.
-
my folks used to have a place on timber lakes ans i've seen a couple of studs in there . Is there still property to hunt at the end of agate loop road ? . there was a old clear cut in there that used to be a good spot.

nothing to see here.

One of those 2pt's might have been the buck my wife determined was "off limits" for us. He was born in our back yard and still spends a lot of time there. Haven't seen his brother in about a year. Probably got picked off last year.

Notice his right front tine how it starts to split. Did you see him?
Also, there is a ledgend buck that lives around Pioneer. He is called "Zombie" I have seen him once a couple of years ago, crossing the road in front of my truck at 4am. He has a 2' scar on his right shoulder/rib cage. I have heard that at least 3 people have claimed over the years to have shot this buck. They say they shoot, follow the blood trail and after awhile, the trail stops. Then he's seen a few days later by someone else. He's supposedly been around for about 6 years now.
-
yep i went pioneer, that was the year before i started hunting
-
Nothing to see here either, stay at vail.
-
Could be. Hard to tell from that angle. I only got a fleeting glimps as he crossed the road going down the hill from the school towards the hwy. The buck I saw had a very clear 2 foot scar running from his spine above his ribs onto his front shoulder on his right side. I mentioned to some folks that I saw a huge buck and described the scar and then heard the story. Did this 2 more times to different people over the next few months and got the same story.
-
Well have you seen him this year? I can't say we noticed any big scars before we skinned him out so thats the only thing that makes me think "Zombie" is still out there. randy isn't very wide, but very heavy tall and dark.
-
I only saw him once a few years ago at 4am in the dark. Might still be out there. :dunno:
-
Sent you a PM too.
