What would be my best bet for raccon bait, around my house i have tree's surrounding my house? any ideas for good bait! thank's

Hands down best bait is marshmallows, peanut butter and vanilla extract. I stuff a knee high nylon with mallows and peanut butter. Tie it in to the back of the cage. This keeps it out of reach of mice. Plus when they go into the trap they can't just take it and run. I pour the extract over it once its tied in. I also make a mallow trail into the trap making sure I get a couple under the treddle making them spend extra time on it. Got hundreds of coons this way and it keeps out the unwanteds. Skunks will still go for it sorry :(

open can of tuna. Works great on coons. I use a live trap and just put the can inside, usually takes about one night and bam, big fat racoon...every time.

If he's trapping around his house I'll assume he doesn't want to catch house cats. Which you will with tuna, stick with the marshmallows, peanut butter combo.

Tuna and fishy smelling stuff is great for coon and cats too. Can't catch a coon with a cat in the trap.
My favorite peanut butter and jelly with anise mixed in. Also have had luck with chopped up onion.
A very good ADC trapper told me the best coon bait is a smorgasboard.

Coons and cats meet the same fate in my traps, I'm happy with either. Did really well with some old moldy smoked salmon. I'll have to try the marshmallow thing though since I hate letting smoked salmon go bad. :chuckle:

Fishy baits will also catch every skunk in the neighborhood, so make sure your trap is up off the ground if your going to use fish...actually skunks also like marshmellows as well. ;) I also use vanilla wafers with great sucess, but I also always use marshmellows, great eye appeal and they love them. I like the little multi colored ones and one or two big ones hanging just over the back of the pan from the top of the trap.

Milkbone type dog treats have worked well for me. No cats. Occasionally squirrels and Jays will go for them though. If the raccoons are close they will go for them pretty quickly. I push the treats down through the squares in the top of the cage so they hang down. Then cover them with some wood blocks.

honey bun with 1/2 packet of grape or fruit punch koolaid poured on top.

I dunno if it is true, but I heard that if you take something small and shiny and put it in a hole that is just big enough for the shiny thing to fit a raccoon will grab it and not be able to get their paw out cause they won't want to let go of the shiny thing. Can't remember where I heard that, but it may be BS. :dunno:

I Use a live trap and i will try those idea's i just want to catch a coon ;) i havnt caught one yet i caught possum's and squirrells but not a coon yet! i have tried the tuna but all the rain alway's get's in the can WEll it is washington :chuckle: and i think the marshmallow's and stuff will really help so thank's i will try them out and keep you guy's posted on my hopefully coon success

Never hurts to set a board across the top to help keep your bait dry. Don't put anything that has any value within a raccoon's reach because once in the cage they will tear everything they can touch apart.

fig newton's and marshmallows. I found out other bait attracts other animals I don't want in my traps.
