Walked in this morning to a spot where I had a camera set off skookumchuck road(behind WeyCo Gate 82D just passed the pheasant release site) and it was gone. =[ I knew that theres the possibility of theft as its in a public access place but honestly i figured nobody would walk down into the bottom of the bowl that i put it in.(its a good 250ft straight down) Thats the last time I leave a camera out during rifle season. Its not even the monetary value of the camera or the external battery cause i can get more but i really wanted the pictures!!! Especially cause on my way in this morning there was FRESH elk shat everywhere! Anyways I just wanted to gripe a little bit. I was always raised to work hard for the things I wanted and to never take anything that wasn't mine and it just makes me steam that some people don't feel the same way but hopefully karma will find this guy soon.
Anyways thanks for listening to me b*tch and Id also like to hear how some of you theft proof their cameras.
Thanks guys!

I always lock my trail camera's up on Pubic land. Cant trust anybody these days. Here are my lock boxes for my cuddebacks that i use. Works for bears and people. I lag bolt them to the tree from the inside of the box then I lock the outside.
-
How much does that weigh? Lol it doesn't look backpack friendly but I do like the security. Store bought?
-
The box is really light actually Considering the trail camera weighs about 4 times as much as it does. Its a tough aluminum box. It was custom made by a buddy of mine. When I pack them in i just always make sure its in the very bottom of my pack with the tabs sticking up. Doesnt bother me packing them in knowing i wont have a 230$ dollar trail cam stolen.
-
Just feel lucky it was only your trail cam that got stollen and not your rig or whatever is in it while you were out putting up the camera. There is alot of theft out there and alot of foot traffic, ALOT. Nothing is safe around here.
-
:yeah:
-
dude that is so messed up, you sure see alot of these stolen cam threads, makes me friggin sick that there is that many damn thieves out there in the woods, would be cool to catch some stealing one of those and whack his fingers off and put them in a bag for him and send him on his sorry ass way.... :bash: :bash: friggin thieves

Either that or attach the game cam to a claymore :)
-
I was gonna put my camera out on Saturday but thought twice and didnt put it out at all. Why you ask? Damn rifle hunters. That is all.
-
Sorry to here that, it truly sucks when someone Jacks your stuff. I had mine stolen over a year ago, I was pissed it took up until a few weeks ago to get another one and now I have it hanging in a new location, no luck yet! Good luck!
-
Yea I set mine up on the last day it early archery. It may be judgmental but really think had it been out the entire archery season it would still be there. Just my :twocents:
-
oh come on now, i am a rifle hunter through and through and i am the furthest thing from a thief, i know a few jack knob friggin bow hunters that would jack stuff if they could, all in all there are to many damn thieves and they need a serious case of what the hell happened to my damn fingers when they wake up in some deep dark dank friggin swamp.....oh and i do love the claymore idea... hell yes, you can bet when i start hangn my cams they will have a booby trap attached to them....maybe if we all booby trap are stuff we will weed out the damn thieves ....i would bet that they are also the scum dirty ass scud bottom vagrants that are out there poachin to.....i dont know if you guy know yet but i hate thieves.... i really, one broke into my house and stole some pretty sentimental stuff, would love to have killed that piece of garbage..... :twocents:
-
Lets start conjuring up practical booby traps fellas. Lets hear some ideas!! I'm thinkin something involving electricity.
-
My uncle was parked by the trolly car taken my little cousin fishing and came back to his truck pepperd with dents and rock chip marks and windows broken out! Somebody did burnouts and trashed his truck! Its a joke up there anymore!
-
second that I lost one camera in an area that no one should be during modern on private ground. And my buddy lost 2 cameras over late buck to hunters in walk in areas also in just a few days of being out. Warning to those that find the need to steal cameras be careful whos cameras you steal because I might have pictures of you from the other camera!!! ;)
-
here is a good booby trap, a heavily springed bow stick with some good sharp sticks about nut high, that would fix them, or if you dont want bodily damage then a few flash bangs and a small piece of debt chord sunk in a small can of red paint, when that puppy goes off he will think he has been blown to you know what, i would still rather cause some serious bodily damage though :twocents:

Higher % of archery hunters are felons....................just sayin'...... :stirthepot:

Dont forget about the Mushroom pickers, I have been seeing more and more over the years , brush pickers also. Just because a camera gets stolen doesnt mean its another hunter. I came out of the woods about an hour and a half after dark only to have a rig pull up with buckets and headlamps on.
-

Thats why I am gonna park at your house when I am down there :chuckle:

Buddy of mine owns a subway in eastern wa and loves to hunt. He had one of those cams that sends the pics to your cell phone. He was at work when he got a great pic of the guys face, then the woods, and finally the inside of his truck. He blew up the pics and plastered them all over town to try to catch the guy. :dunno: :chuckle:
So far no success.
-
I dont have cameras but I always figured I would get two. Using one hidden to only take pics of the other camera so I could turn the pics into the sheriff!
-
The only thing I ever do when I come across a game cam, is take a few "Glamour shots" :chuckle: but only for humor sake. Nothing frustrates me more than the thought of somebody stealing a game camera, you can't get anymore low than that. next time, set up a crappy dummy cam with a well hidden cam monitoring it. JUSTICE.

That's outright crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The area used to be prety peaceful... but that was 10+ years ago. It seems like every year it gets worse and worse. From the thefts to the garbage and just sketchy people hanging around.
-
Ya its been getting worse. Last year I hiked up a old gated road and there was a womans purse and bag with clothes etc. that had been rumaged thru. It was scattered all over. I looked but didnt find any identifying info just lots of makeup and such. Most likely stolen out of a car or something. Had a stand setup few years ago and noticed tweakers heading back into woods on same trail I had used, for what I dunno and didnt want to find out.

-
Not to mention the 2 murders and 2 suicides up there.
-

The house at the "T" has been a drug house for a long time. Almost need some low life to get shot breaking into a rig to scare the rest off for awhile.
I only go up that way a few times a year. I leave my doors unlocked and some random .233 rounds in the cup holder but I havent caught anybody breaking into my truck yet... enough of us frequent the area, we should hold a huntwa meet at the parking lot below the dam sometime

Someone is setting up trailcameras in my Hunting area :bash: :bash: I found it once and walked off but today I slipped in behind it and took an arrow out of my quiver and waved it in front of the camera :chuckle: :chuckle: thats better than shooting a hole threw the lens ...RIGHT ;) I should of took a picture to show ya the set up ...they had 2 bails of straw tossed out in a circle with a big pile of something that had mold on it :dunno: Guess they do not know baiting blacktail in the fall does not work all that great especially when it has rained for a month straight ...another thing I hardly ever see much sign on that side of the hill so good luck to him  I give him credit though he walked about 5 miles from the road to place it and lucky for him it is just me who found it :hello:

Sorry to here this happened. I can tell you one things that I have learned from this forum. I have seen numerous post of folks pissed that cams got stolen. However, I have yet to see a post from someone who has said...i locked my cam, took security precautions, etc. and it still got stolen. I guess for me...after reading about stolen cams...i now take better security measures. Still sucks bro....i here ya, but its pretty obvious that if you leave for the taken...folks are going to steal....its sad...but reality of the mind set of many of these people. Hard lesson....lock up next time.
-
Well i was up set but at the same time not so much. I understand that you cannot leave anything in the woods and expect it to stay put if you leave it out there and you come back and its there good for you if you come back and its gone then o well its a gamble

There was so many people up there during Rifle season. Thats why i didnt hunt the bowl during late archey. But there is a trail to the bottom that is a really eazy walk. If we are talking about the same spot. But i had my tree stand stolen the last day of elk last year, It was there the day before but the next day it was gone. Three miles in behind a gate.
-
I ran into a guy while fishing down there that had a treestand stolen in the time it took him to hike out back to his truck to get something and hike back. He said he was gone less than 30 minutes. :bash: :bash:
-
There are a lot of dirtbags out there! I have several self climber tree stands that I used to pack in and just padlock to the tree for the duration of the season. One time I got to my stand and noticed it was in a different position as I had left it in. Looked to me like someone had tried to snag it so that was the end of that. Now my legs pay for it if I want to hunt out of my stand. I pack it in and out every day I hunt with it. As for trail cameras, the window I'll have mine out is Jan. 1 through Aug. 15th. I've had one ripped off and it was the worst feeling wandering around there trying to convince myself that I was in the wrong spot, that the tree must be over there. . . Nope it was stolen. Felt like being kicked in the nuts. It's a shame I miss out on rut pictures, but I'd rather go without pictures than risk that feeling again.
