Title: Success in two states
Post by: elkspert on November 21, 2012, 09:42:23 PM
Just returned from a Montana elk hunt. I got to bring my 7 year old on his first hunt. He was there to see his grandpa get a nice buck and me get a great bull. He said he wanted to help pack, so we put a elk back strap in his pack. It was a short but steep little climb out. After about 20 yards he said he couldn't do it. We explained to him what "GRIT" was. He made the pack out.

Here is the only pic I got of him packing the backstrap out. The pack was a little big so the meat was hitting him down low. We tried to tie it up higher which helped but not much. I had already promised him I would take him to Montana deer hunting and then I found out I drew a special permit for elk. I figured oh well he's going, a promise is a promise right? What a great decision. He spotted deer, elk, coyotes, fox, and birds. He was a big help and didn't slow us down one bit. Needless to say he can't wait to go back and I can't wait to take him.

"The Pack Out"   Best success photo I have seen this year.   That should be an 11x14 on the wall in your trophy room!   Way to carry on the tradition of family and hunting.

The packing pic was so very touching, and makes me long for the day when my young boy, Forrest, will be able to do the same thing. A fine looking little lad at that. You are blessed.
