did anyone kill any manson bucks this year??
-
I was out yesterday and saw 7 does and a spike...
Heading out again in the am.
-
Hunted the whole general season over there and saw three that were taken.
-
I spoke to a guy that spent the last week over there and saw one legal buck. He had heard of 1 taken so far.
-
Mason?? :dunno:

Guess they are all on the Lady of the Lake
-
Mason?? :dunno:

Ok bone lets see him!

:yeah: let's see the one that didn't get away!

I'm calling you out Bone! You've hinted/made comments in several threads that lead us to believe that you harvested a deer but yet I/we have not seen any pics. Care to share or did you already and I missed the thread??

THe long story is there is no story. A 5x5 with eyeguards. I haven't told my story as there is no story. I don't feel like being judged for my feelings about how pitiful my hunt was. I saw him from the road, walked up to him and killed him. That kind of hunt does not float my boat but I don't want to seem smug about someone elses form of hunting. I hope all those poised for judgement can understand. Meat is in the freezer, the $180 tag is notched. I don't have pics. I plan on doing the maceration thing maybe.

Congrats!! You went outside without a camera???
-
Would you leave that much camera equipment sitting on your front seat while you go climb a mountain and didn't I sacrifice enough of the rest of my season just taking pics. :)

Nope! I hear ya.....

So the truth comes out....Bone really just is a road hunter :chuckle: I knew it all along. congrats bone I think I was curious somewhere back about your 30 straight seasons I was like hmmm didnt see one this year ...now we know
-
I'm guessing it was a good buck?
-
There is nothing wrong with shooting one close to the road. I have been and put many a mile under my boot only to shoot one a couple hundered feet from the road. Some times a guy has to earn it before the mighty one feels you put in the extra effort and deserve it. Then I guess it can be chalked up to luck.

I wouldn't judge anyone for taking one off the road, and you shouldn't feel bad for it either. Nothing wrong with taking an easy one after lots of hard ones! :)
-
THanks guys.

I won't judge you. I shot my biggest deer ever a few years ago. We hunted 5 days hard (out of the truck) and saw nothing. We finally gave up and got back in the truck to head out of the area. Giant 4 x 4 mulie walks out 10 feet in front of the truck. It made it across the road, across the ditch, and I shot it before it hit the timber at 5 yards. When we got back to camp, everyone was thinking we packed in 10 miles plus to get a deer that size. I felt embarassed to even tell the story, as it was not much of one. Cettainately was not what I call "hunting". I call it "right place, right time hunting aka GOT LUCKY!" Hey...I will take it, but it would have been nice to share something good with everyone. Still a great memory!
:yeah: I shot my biggest buck driving in between spots. The deer are where you find them. sometimes that not where they are supposed to be.... ;) :chuckle:
-
Sometimes we just get lucky, I walked 1/2 mile in on gated road this year and my buck ran to me like a lap dog. :dunno:
-
Just think of all the ones that were not easy. Maybe it is a little payback for putting on many many miles for a buck. Or maybe putting on many many miles, and not getting a buck at all. One of my bigger bucks was a buck that anyone could have killed. I had a 3rd season tag in CO, and on the opening evening, a big buck crossed the road and stopped up on the hill. I was riding along heading back to the truck, I jumped off my quad, walked up the hill maybe 20 yards, put a single shell in, and my hunt was over. It was a good buck, but means less to me than many of the smaller bucks I have taken. Just take the easy with the hard, it all evens itself out.
-
Bone, we call it the points system. If you work your a$$ off and don't see a thing, if you help another hunter get a deer, etc you gain lots of points. You must have had a lot of points from passing all the deer you take pictures of. :twocents:
-
Just a 5x5 with eye guards? Damnit Bone, post the picture already! Or which month in your calendar is it??

Fair enough Bone! Thanks for the reply! Opportunity comes in all fashions and one should not be condemned for taking advantage of the opportunity given. Congrats on filling the freezer

I hunted the Manson unit one day, pretty fair conditions, snow at the top and rainy low. There were does and smaller 1's and 2's around...

Mason?? :dunno:
Manson - GMU 243. Lake Chelan.
Gotcha!! :chuckle: Haven't been up there in 10+ years... :o

I've shot a few deer that just happened apon me in the easiest way as well Bone... Just hopped out the truck, load, and no packing... One I was very thankful for.. Last day of late season.. Hadn't seen a thing.. Pouring rain... Soaked to the bone with an empty freezer.. Called it for the season... I was done, wooped, wanted to go home.. 1/4 mile from pavement and I couldn't believe my eyes when a heavy 2x3 BT stopped in the middle of the road at 20 yards... I probably hiked 100 miles that year scouting and hunting to shoot one on the road 20 yards from my truck... Lucky yes... Lazy and lack of hunting no... It's not how I prefer it to be done.... But I sure wasn't complaining any of those times!!
Congrats hope we get to see some pics!!!

$180 tag? I must have missed something here...or maybe you are counting the costs for all your other WA State tag fees....just curious. :dunno:
-
Multi season tag.

Yes, multi season tag. All my other Wa stuff. Thats closer to $300 isn't it? :yike:

Even if you saw him from the road, still takes a bit of knowledge and experience to get close enough to stick one with a bow. Did you use your recurve?

Right on Bone! Nice buck! Now you can get back out there and hunt with your camera without all of that pesky archery equipment weighing you down.
-
Nice indeed
-
If I remember last year Jackelope took a nice deer just off the road....weren't they hunting hard up in the snow and he whacked a good one. If I remember the thread he put in a lot of time and the one that hit the dirt just happened to be a chip shot when it finally happened. Glad you notched the tag and enjoy all the dinners that will come from it.

True story. 2010 in the blues.

One more to add to the 5 point thread.
-
yep..I remember the thread and I belive the deer is the one in your avatar. Plenty of hard hunting folks get to tag one close in sometimes.
Of anyone I've ever seen post on here I would say Bone has the best chance to shoot just about any deer of this choosing. Does anyone put more leather down and see the number of bucks he does? I know I sure don't....not even close.
Thanks for showing the deer Bone and thanks for the pics that keep coming.

Longbow C
Very nice looking buck, and with the longbow. Congrats!

I've never shot anything to be embarresed about. ;)

Me neither. That includes the worlds smallest 3x4 whitetail. It was one hell of a good shot.
-
It sure is a nice Buck Bone! I hope I can get out before the season is over and put my tag on a deer!!!!
-
Nice buck Bone. But I am sure Idabooner would have passed on it or atleast chased it up the hill a couple miles before dispatching of it. Did you call him up to help with the drag out? :chuckle:

Spent 6 days climbing all over the Manson unit during regular rifle season. There were 11 of us in our camp for the opening weekend. 2 guys tagged out opening day. 3 pointers. A half dozen of us spent most, or all, of the rest of the week taking hikes through some gorgeous country. There were 2 guys camped where all the ATV'ers camp that got deer, or so I heard.
My current hunting partner and I took a younger guy with us one morning to see if he could fill his tag with the buck we had bedded at dusk the night before. He is a little new to the whole hunting scene. Long story short he got too far ahead of us and spooked the deer into one of those canyons that aren't made for 2 legged critters to walk down.
Just about the time I saw our young apprentice 200 yards ahead of us I heard a noise behind me. I turned around to see a ram and ewe about 35 yards behind me. They stood on a small outcropping just looking at me like "what are you doing here"? The ram was only about 2/3 of a curl.
Lots of bear, cougar and moose sign. We saw a lot of does. I didn't see any wolf tracks, but know they aren't too far north of there.
We did see a nice 4x4 whitetail, 5 if you count eye guards. He was by the houses just south of the bunny slope above Chelan.

Entiat slaughter??

Was expecting to see a thread on what's going on in the entiat right now. I hear its just more of the same, Indians slaughtering big mulies on their winter range. Someone have more details? Heard some info but just hearsay at this point. All I know is SOMETHING needs done before someone gets hurt or killed over this crap!
Could this be part of the reason Manson was such a dud this year? Are people coming to that side of the lake and doing the same thing?
-
I'd blame wolves more than natives for this area. The wolves are smacking the headwaters really hard during the summer months.

I quit hunting the manson side 15 or 20 years ago. Last i heard the fruit pickers were poaching and the game warden at the time was afraid of them or something. Last time i went there for late archery we went to my old spot. But 4 miles in in fresh 4in of snow from the day before . We cut not 1 set of tracks. Thats how i found Entiat. We headed over there cause it was always good back when i rifled hunted. Have not been back to manson since...
-
congrats bone. you got the only buck in the manson unit this year
