Post by: erk444 on November 22, 2012, 05:06:06 PM: I shot a buck in the Entiat in 04 that had a broadhead covered in scar tissue in his leg/ hip and he was movin just fine :dunno: Im just sayin, a wound to the leg is not to much for a wild critter to deal with. Maybe the leg was broke but even then, we saw the same doe 2 years in a row in Wyoming that only had 3 legs. They're pretty tough. They gotta be to live in the conditions they do!

Every year since the archery has been going in the entiat after the season when the deer move to the orchard there is always a wounded buck or doe in there. Usually with the arrow sticking out of the back leg and they always end up dieing in the orchard. I hate it. Did you call and turn these guys in for slinging arrows and not following up??

Exactly, I have seen some pretty wild stuff during the modern firearm hunts.

All hunters things happen. Good job!!!!! Another note!! Lots of clowns in the swakane this year. I don't know if its cause of the muti season tag people who shouldn't be there?

If your dad waited so long for his tag and had expectations for a throphy and not been happy with that deer then maybe he should have passed or tried to find the guy that wounded it and put them on it . He did a humane thing for sure but , with tribal hunting way out of control and poaching running wild he shouldn't have felt that he had to harvest that animal.

Maybe it's popular and therefore attracts many hunters and therefore by percentage more bad hunters! He did say they caught the boys in the act so I think his feelings about their hunting ethics are well founded. I'll let him be the judge. None the less, please don't get too worked up about what he had to say. I know what it's like to find a wounded animal (this week!!!) and for whatever reason the arrow didn't connect, it can be very disappointing and emotional. It took me hours to get happy about taking down that wounded Doe earlier this week. Not because I didn't want her, but because I was bummed for her before I found her. Good job guys and I hope next years' hunt is more of what you're after. He's a great buck none the less, thanks for the great pictures and thank you for doing the right thing!

Post by: TVHunts on December 06, 2012, 07:14:53 PM: I am not sure why anyone could or would take a negative attitude to this post. No one has any reason to believe otherwise than his Dad spotted a wounded animal and chose to pursue it. Whether it would or would not have made it is an unknown.

I too gave up archery years ago because I had wounded an animal I couldn't recover and it made me sick. That was in the early 80's. I took up archery again in 2006 to get away from the crowds. Used properly it is a lethal as any other weapon known to mankind.

Wounding animals happens, period. It doesn't matter which weapon is used, it can and will happen. Read Bearpaws posts about his outfitting service, they are pro's and animals can and will be lost. I guess I don't understand why a guy's honor would be questioned or attacked for making this post on his adventure or hunt.

His Dad did the the honorable thing IMO. Maybe the guy's who wounded it didn't, who knows, we weren't there. If they did just fling arrows then shame on them. The only ones that know the truth is the person(s) behind the bow. My .02

We could :beatdeadhorse:, but as many have said, stuff happens. There could be a number of reasons why the initial shooters didn't folllow up, but I can't think of one. I mean, when an Archer releases, there is, no less than, $15.00 flying down range. At the very least, the shooter should want to recover the arrow. :dunno: I know I am no rich enough to not follow up to find the arrow.

Congratulations, to your dad, for making a great call. The good part is, there was nothing wrong with the meat and the rack will look nice on the wall. :tup: :tup:
