My family and I are out of town for the holiday and we get a call that something is wrong with our dog Bailey and the lady boarding him is taking him to the emergency vet. An hour later I get a call that he's gone. Didn't even make it to the vet. They think his stomach flipped and bloat got him. He was 12 years old... Got him at 9 weeks old a year after I met my wife. He's been through it all with us and we haven't even told our little girl yet. She'll be crushed. He'll, I'm crushed.
RIP Bailey, till we meet again. (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F12%2F11%2F23%2F5ypubemy.jpg&hash=c537b27d9e43ab9b2b788c01eda95e0f32266ad0)

Sorry to here Jackalope.....any pet is hard to lose, especially when your not there to say goodby.
-
Having just gone through the same situation, we know how you and the wife feel. We had Todd cremated, and have his ashes sitting beside his picture. It helps a little, but the hollow feeling you will experience, just seems to hang on. We wish you folks the best.

sorry to hear of your loss.
-
Thanks for all the kind words. We just got back in town last night. Decided to wait and tell our little girl till we were home due to some other crazy extended family stress. She took it really hard at first but is a trooper but that was definitely one if the hardest things I've had to do as a dad. If i never get another dog that will be why. I'm cleaning up his stuff right now. Taking his beds and other stuff and going to see if I can donate them. No plans to get another dog for a while. Maybe the kiddo would like a guinea pig or something LOL.
-
Sorry.... RIP...
-
Sorry
She is with a lot of real good dogs now.

I'm sorry for your unexpected loss Jackelope. Losing a great lab is tough.....I know.
Year's ago I had a Chocolate female, Teal was her name (Lady Teal of Clearlake). I had to have her put down due to kidney failure (10.5 YO). She died as I was holding her in my lap. That was very tough on me. I went 6 year's before I got another female Chocolate lab. Her name was Maddie...alias MadDog, MudBug, hey you get over here, hey you get otta that etc. Her registered name was Madison's Mocha Hunter (Madison from a town in Georgia). She was a waterfowl hunting dream.....lot's of drive but could stop on a dime (in her prime, the last couple of year's I let her get away with whatever she wanted pretty much) when I whistle, then hand commanded. Last year on August 21st. she got very sick (on a Saturday). Took her to the vet (new vet.....normal (ex) vet was too busy , he kept her overnight. She died the next day. I went to pick her up to bury her up by the cabin overlooking the duck hunting swamp. Got a backhoe, dug a 6' deep hole, placed her in the hole with her favorite blanket (facing the swamp), my best Mallard drake decoy and 3 12ga. 3" #2 Kent shotgun shells. Said a prayer with my wife and neighbor, covered her up and placed a rock on top that looks like it had a thousand golfball sized rocks rolled up in some lava stuff. About the size of a loveseat, that I had been saving. 4 month's before Maddie died (12.5YO) I got another Chocolate lab pup. Her name is Grace. She has 3 ancestors in her lineage that are in Maddie's lineage. She'll never replace Maddie but, she look's a lot like her and she's developing into a very loveable and fine companion in her own right. I'm so glad that I didn't wait another many year's before I got another. Life's too short not to have a good dog around. No good dog will ever be replaced but (for me) not having even a decent dog around is just too dark of a hole in my life. Take care, man. Time doesn't erase but, it does ease. R.I.P Bailey. I'm sure you had a charmed life.

That just sucks Josh. Got tears in my eyes thinking about how your daughter feels. Sorry you have to weather this storm.

Sorry for your loss.......been there. Here is something to help you through. You will meet again.
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.
So, each day they run and play until the day comes when, one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace,
Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated...
-
Thanks guys. It's wierd around the house now. Feels like something's missing.
I feel you pain. I too lost my 12 year old lab this month. It is a very special bond, and I still have a tough time dealing with it. Its the little things around the house that reminds you that he is gone.
-
My condolences man, just saw this. Tough times for sure
-
dude that sucks when that kind of stuff happens, i have lost some real close pets and it is never easy, i gotta tell ya though bailey sure looks like old yeller....
-
Sadly I too now know exactly how you feel Jackelope. Last night we lost our 12 year old Weim named Magnum to complications of gastric torsion. He's my avitar pic.
Saturday night about midnight my wife woke me to tell me something was wrong with Magnum. I recognized the bloating and hauled ass for the vet while my wife called ahead to warn them. A quick x-ray confirmed the gastric torsion and he was immediately prepped for surgery. He was basically gutted, rearranging the stomach and bowels, sew the stomach to the abdominal wall, and then they stuff it all back in. String of staples from pecker to sternum. The surgery was deemed a success. We were optimistic he would be able to come home Monday morning (today). I went home about 6AM while Magnum rested.
About 9PM we get the call that he is in crisis with massive internal bleeding and his time is short. My wife was able to get there in time thank goodness and was able to hold him as he passed.
Totally unexpected event. He was his normal self when I went to bed on Saturday, then Sunday he's gone. Gastric torsion and bloat are serious business. We did our best, but we're dogless for the first time in a long time today.
-
Sorry to hear, Karl. That's really rough. I am truly sorry for your loss. Read the post that TheKid#10 posted a couple ip from here. It's good stuff.
-
Lots of good dogs being lost this summer/fall. Condolences to all.
-
Sorry to hear that ! it sucks when this happens.....I had to put my wife's boxer down last week. Sarge was 14 years old and even though he was 4 years past the normal life span of a boxer it still hurt us all....Most of all , Abbey my lab still is wandering around looking for him so she is definateley missing him......Maybe you get the daughter a little lab puppy for christmas to soften the blow.............
Take care Superfly
