I just jumped on to this forum becuase of new circumstances about my Mt Spokane Moose hunt, i had hunted the Thompson Cr area earlier in the season and was not succsseful, i am back to find that IEP has locked the gate and ther is only foot or Atv acssess (which i dont have).
Does anyone know of some state or DNR land i can hunt or i will have to scrub the tag?
-
Im sure someone on here will step up and help. Ill take a look at the boundary description and see if i can help point you on a new direction.
-
looking at my maps, thers some dnr/stateland just se of the intersection of blanchard creek rd and blanchard rd. Lots of moose in that area, definetly worth checking out.
-
I don't know the boundaries for the tag but day-mt Spokane road will get you on IEP land. Don't remember seeing a gate in there
-
How about you try getting out and doing some walking.
-
"Scrub the tag"????? WTF
I am sure you will get an offer to get you in a good area of that unit. Heck I am tempted to offer but I have business issues going on. Check back often I bet someone reaches out to you.
-
Then post your story on here if you would.
-
Get an IEP permit, simple.
-
Your spot on about the permit however they do keep that gate locked and unattended outside of the general hunt seasons. Good on IEP that they pay a guy to monitor the gate during general hunt seasons to let people in and out by vehicle, unlike Hancock that is not hunter freindly and tends to "lock down" much of their land. As Hancock continues to buy weyerhauser property we continue to get shut out most of the time.
He could walk in off Thompson but it would be a long walk.

I've got an IEP permit. so I'm thinking there is a way to get behinds those gates. I would call IEP and inquire about access.
-
I know the gates are open on the idaho side or at least they were last weekend. I know you can get to Wa going in through the spirit lake access point and I think you can also trough the twin lakes access. Possible option but I don't know what the mt Spokane unit boundaries are.

I dont have my map in front of me right now but I was told at the dnr regional office that they had sold off all of their land up there to IEP. At least the land up at blanchard for sure. I would look into the IEP permit more.

Look for Quality Services and call them for the correct answers to your questions.

You can get it done but either way your pretty late to the dance. Research needed to be done months ago.
-
How many days left? Are you willing to buy the permit?
-
If you won't walk, i'd at least rent or borrow an ATV especially if i had that tag.
-
You can fill your moose inside 2 miles from that gate. Bring a cart with you or sled if the snow is still there n make it happen...... Scrub the tag.... I waited 12 years for the tag in which I and buddy drew. We both were successful and my buddy got his in there from that gate. :bash:
-
The north boundry of that unit is Blanchard creek rd. That road is driveable if you have 4 wheel drive. We were up there in september and saw lots of sign on both sides. Now with all of the leaves on the ground it should be alot easier to spot moose. Blanchard creek rd. comes out on Tallman rd. on the west side, it might be better to access from that side. good luck

Moose season ends in 5 days. The original poster hasn't even been logged in since he started this thread. Hopefully he's out hunting right now and not going to let that tag go to waste. I hope he comes on here again with a success story, but I'm having serious doubts.
-
If you had an IEP permit, you can go around ALL locked gates with your ATV. You have to have a shovel, bucket (helmet) and fire extinguisher. If you're disabled, you can bring your companion with you with the same requirements. This is what I was told when I got my disabled permit. Check though, because this is off the top of my old noggin.

Scrub the tag?? :puke: :bdid:

Do people really not care that this is their one and only opportunity to kill a moose in WA? I don't understand it... :dunno:

Are we smellin' a prankster about this tag ?

Get out and walk...The area you are speaking of is the mt spokane north unit isn't it? Something is not right here?????
