Interestingly, I was just on the phone with my brother in Raymond, and he said there is a lot of mink around there.

I would venture to say yes, no trapping to speak of for years, lots of great habitat, small streams, big rivers and marshes, wish we could use conis, I would bottom edge set 3 counties that I'm familiar with (lewis, thurston and cowlitz), not sure how well the colony traps work for them in those spots.

Noob, look for sign at the feeder creeks going into the larger creeks and rivers, the tiny lil springs also are good locations to look for tracks(coon and mink will dig around looking for the crawdads), look at log crossings even if the logs are only 2 inches wide, you can tell if you look close where they have worn moss, bark etc, though it is sometimes faint, back in the day I would catch them on notched sets with legholds, though pocket sets were the best sets for me, thats all I remember from 34 years ago, you'll fiqure it out once you start thinking like a detective.

Dayn, the colony traps work just fine in bottom edge sets! the only real difference is that instead of catching one a day in a 110 you can catch every one that comes through in a 6x6x30 colony.

Darrel Druzianich and Larry Saviage both told me they had good luck catching mink in baited cage traps. They said they had best luck with beaver for bait.

Melvin Wheeler used to catch a lot of mink on the upper Chehalis and Cowlitz.

Colony traps are simple to make! You can make a bunch fairly easily. Cage trapping them last year was almost too easy. Take a rat carcass and toss it in the back of the cage. Worked almost daily for us.

Make your own colony traps, it's way cheaper and quicker.

Set them bottom edge along banks where the water is between 8" and 2' feet deep, look for areas with crayfish especially.

Use strong wire because they can blow through some materials on a colony trap.
