Do you refer to an animal you've killed or haven't yet killed as "My" or "Mine"? i.e., "I got my deer"? Or did you get "your" elk"? Does this wildness that we pursue deserve to be "ours", even once we've claimed our prize??? Just curious, as it has always seemed extrodinarily impersonal and downright disrespectful. I know it is very, very common. I would like to hear your other sayings or options to this, and best of all, any old timers explanation to you in your youth as to how to speak of your kill???
-
I kiltzed MY deer  :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
That's a good question. I have always wondered why people often say "I got my deer" or "did you get your deer"?
To that question I would answer "no, but I did get 'a' deer."
-
I killed a 6x5 bull elk in Cle elum on top of Peoh Point one year. Everybody and their brother kept-on-a sayin', you killed MY elk, you killed MY elk. I've been chasing that elk for 3 days. I said, no, I killed MY elk. So I guess yes, I say, MY elk, MY deer or whatever too. Guilty...... :chuckle:
-
I would say MY or YOUR deer or elk. I scouted, I spend all my free time in the woods, I beat my body to the breaking point (and love it), I have made mistakes, I practice my shot, I spend my money, I earn the majestic trophy and the meat. If you prepared for success I would say it's YOURS. :twocents:

:yeah:
-
:hello: Guilty. I say, "I got my deer," or ask, "Did you get your deer?" Although ducks, I say, "I got some ducks," or "Did you get some ducks?"
Just for the record, I do not feel entitled to the deer. It is more like saying, "I got MY dinner," or "I got MY meat!" for me ;)
-
I'm with tbar on this one. If you put out the effort required to harvest a trophy, then that's exactly what it is "your trophy". I don't think that's disrespectfull towards the animal at all.
-
well lets see, I go to MY job, to earn MY money, which I then use to buy MY license and tags from the state in which I live and pay MY taxes. I then go out and hunt MY butt off for the animal.
So I really don'y see why I should not call it MINE.
-
I would actually take it a step further and say you are disrespecting the hunter by calling it ours. If I were to help you harvest an animal I would call it YOUR animal. I think this in no way shape or form disrespects the animal we hunt.
-
Yup. It's mine. I earned it and I tagged it with my tag. It's also in my freezer and on my wall. Why wouldn't it be mine? Try to take a deer from an angry bear, bet he thinks its his too. Not just "a" deer, but "his" deer.
-
This is dumb - freaking ethic Nazis trying to dream up crap to be offended by.
You must be one of the guys who freak out when someone sits on or straddles an Elk and holds up the head for a picture too huh?

Do you refer to an animal you've killed or haven't yet killed as "My" or "Mine"? i.e., "I got my deer"? Or did you get "your" elk"? Does this wildness that we pursue deserve to be "ours", even once we've claimed our prize??? Just curious, as it has always seemed extrodinarily impersonal and downright disrespectful. How is "mine" or "my" impersonal? That is an oxymoron.
It's not mine until I kill it...then it's mine. At that time I would own every piece of that animal. If you were to steal the antlers then you would have stolen "my" antlers. Because once I kill the animal it is "mine".
-
Well, it becomes yours once you tag it. Per the regs, a bagged and tagged animal is tangible personal property.
What really irks me are the *censored*es who refer to public land camping spots and honey holes as 'theirs.' :mor:
-
If my tag is on it then its "my" animal. If it's running around then it is not "my" animal. May be one I am after but until my tag in on him then I don't call him mine :chuckle:

What is an "ethic" Nazi?
If, by "you", you are referring to the OP (me) then no, I do not freak out, whatsoever. "Someone" would not be offending at all. They would look like, exactly what they are. Offensiveness is unattainable.
-
I will call a buck "mine" in jest when talking to my wife (who also hunts) or friends.
-
I guess to clarify, I'm not saying that it isn't yours or mine (especially once killed and tagged) as pointed out in various posts. I am referring more pointedly toward the entitlement attitude that a deer or an elk is or was owed to me or you? As in "I got my elk this year, did you get yours" as if I am entitled to "one" because I hunted, effort notwithstanding.
The post on "harvesting" got me questioning this type of swagger.... Maybe more so in "mixed" company, but even with only hunters listening to a given conversation. Like someone here said "I got a buck or a dandy buck, this year/ last year"' what have you, vs. "I got my buck again this year" etc. As if no matter the effort put forth I, you, we, should tag out every year? We all know or have known slob/ road hunters to talk in this way, as they deserved every kill as made.... Should we all talk this way or?
-
No offence, but this topic is ridiculous.....

:yeah:
Disrespectful of the animal to call it mine! WTF are you talking about Willis? Shooting one of God's beautiful creatures and not legally claiming it as mine would be impersonal and discraceful. Guess this is the type of baloney correctness we get when we are led down a road to be apologetic to other countries for our strength. And given the song and dance that this is not our country so illegal invaders are welcome and just renamed undocumented immigrants.
If you are offended by the use of the word "My" or "Mine" in regards to the legal harvest and consumption of wild game animals it's time you pull up your pants Nancy. True American's kick ass. We don't take it in the ass. So why in the world would any God fearing, red blooded American who's fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sisters and ancestors protected this country with blood, sweat and ultimate sacrifice ever be offended by a such trivial thing.
If you want to be offended my something...be offended that the United States of America borrows money from socialist governments to send money to countries who hate us, who buy arms to be used against us, all in the name of diplomacy and equality, while men, women and children starve and freeze to death on American streets. Worrying about whether I grammatically take personal possession of my legally harvest wild game...what a self indulging discrace.
Further more if you decide an animal I killed is yours instead of mine. Plan on a good old fashioned ass whoopin' >:(
-
Somebody's feeling fiesty :chuckle: good post.
-
My house, my truck, my deer. I earned all of them.
-
I would say "my 2005 bear" when speaking of past killsb but I hate it when I hear "get your deer yet"?
It is a peeve of mine when folks say "I need to get my deer" or "haven't got my deer yet" as if it is just sitting ou there waiting for them.
-
really? theese threads are exactly why i don't post on here much. you all just trying to get your post count up or what. is it harvest or kill, is it yours, why is there no tag in that pic, you shot it from a road your unethical, you looked at a deer in my yard. WTF many of you seem to be quite the jealous whiners.
-
So what is the politically correct thing to say? I filled my tag on your deer.
-
if you killed it, it becomes yours, if i killed it it becomes mine, when asked i have always said 'i got a deer" or "did you get a deer" here is somethn that will offend you, if your of arabic desent and female with that gown thing they wear, and your at the airport then you only get searched from the neck up, yet if your american your subject to a full on search......that should offend you
-
When the game warden asks if that is Your deer, and you say no, its A deer. Let me know how that turns out for you.
or he asks why your tag is on that deer.
-
:yeah: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I do say mine, but I'm not serious about it.
As in "Jharristealth got MY deer" ;)
That deer threw me the finger and bounded in to the woods before I could get a shot off, glad somebody got him ;) He hurt my feelings.
-
come on hunting season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bash: :bash: :bash:
Because he's now in my truck and obviously not going far!
What do you say when you go out to a friends and and they ask did you bring your wife? and you say no I brought a woman that happens to pleasure me and make my dinners but she's not mine :dunno: :chuckle:
-
They are all MY deer, I just like to share.
Now you all owe me a beer. :brew:
-
My favorite one was the guy, who is also kind of a neighbor, who was doing some work for my family and decided that meant he could claim the elk on our property that he didn't have permission to hunt in the first place. Told me that I had better not"scare his elk off" and I had better watch it about trying to hunt there.
He ended up being highly pissed when I told him he didn't have permission to hunt our property and that he needed to stay clear, and not try anyway. To which he said "we will see about that."
Kind of sucks when you mouth off the the property owners, and the one person that can grant you permission and don't realize it until you shoot yourself in the foot.

I'd kick you in the shins if you referred to me a woman though, don't like that term the rest is nice though....I really prefer to not belong to anyone ;)
however public land belongs to all of us as does wildlife so technically it is all ours or mine and yours, unless you are a person who believes the government owns everything... :dunno: :dunno:
and are we seriously just looking for things to be offended by these days? sure seems like it

what we should be offended by is our government laying claim to what is actually supposedly the citizens land and then taxing us to use our own land in the name of the worst management scheme ever seen in business......thats what we should be offended over...if'n we feel the need to dedicate energy to being offended.... :dunno:
