Title: Looking for a guide for the spring.
Post by: Bmcox86 on November 27, 2012, 06:24:22 PM: I'm looking to take my wife turkey hunting this spring and was wondering if anyone could suggest a guide that won't break the bank but give us a good shot at bagging her and maybe even me a bird.

I can't recommend a guide, because I learned it all on my own. If you go with a guide, I would ask them up front to show you the basics and explain why they are doing what they are doing. Turkey hunting is really pretty easy once you figure out a few small things. It is not that easy but but learning the basics does help and it may not be a bad idea going with someone like a guide who knows what is going on .. It is esy to drive down the road and blast one from a farmers field :chuckle: but actually calling one in is a whole different story ...Even with the dumber of the 3 species ....The merriams :twocents: ;) just saying :chuckle:

Post by: brew on December 27, 2012, 05:31:17 PM: i'm sure there are a few guides out there that can hook you up with some spring birds. when checking make sure to give Craig a call at YJ Guide Service. we had a successful deer hunt with him this past fall and saw a butt ton of turkeys on the property. He and his wife Melody are good people.

I have been known to do several each year myself, but I have been working 12 hrs/day, 7 days a week (since early November until the end of March) ... so not this year. But I have some good NWTF friends that do them also from Seattle (Outdoor Emporium) to Lacey (Cabelas) and places in between (Puyallup Sportsmans Warehouse). I would contact the NWTF Lake Washington Chapter or other in your area ... who knows, you might find a good friend and mentor. I was taking out 2 to 3 "newbies" each year from my local chapter as a thank you for their volunteer service, and many non-chapter members as well. Then they started taking many of their friends and relatives out. It was just as exciting to see one of them become successful as for me to harvest another one. I would also check with some of the stores mentioned above at least by Feb 1 to see whats scheduled. Good luck.
