Ok, everyone knows what a fully plummed drake mallard looks like but what about the dozens of other species of ducks that are around us while hunting. Please post up some close up pictures of ducks and explain what kind they are and maybe some identifying marks.
From left to right, here is a redhead drake, 2 ringneck drakes, a drake wigeon and 2 drake mallards

Your right on Bone. Nice shot with him in the process of swallowing the fish! Based on the color you must have taken that picture in the winter months? What is the Cinnamon colored bird next to him?

Other than sea ducks and a bufflehead, i think we have the drakes covered. Anyone have pics and help identifying some hens?

Gad's are always a tough one for newbies to ID while flying. I always pick up the dark color and white in the wings first. Then the bill shape.
-
Lesser Snow Goose
Notice the short neck and size compared to a Mallard also the back wing tips. :dunno:

What's up with mutation on the bill?

What's up with mutation on the bill?
Very observant, your the first to notice that. This just occurs on male Ross geese. The older the male Ross goose get's the more "warted up" the bill gets. That one had enough buildup that I thought it would make a cool mount. Most do not get that pronounced and heavily warted up.
