I drew a second deer tag this year for a doe...I've heard that they cost $70. is that true!?
-
Yes, that is correct.
-
It's true. It wasn't so bad when they were around $26. Now if you don't fill it, that's a lot to spend on a doe.
-
I drew a second deer tag last year and did not buy it. Greed has taken over the WDFW IMO.
-
I applied for one, drew it and filled the tag when they 1st came out. Then they went to the expensive price and i quit applying for them. $70 is a lot to spend to shoot a doe, especially given the fact it is a herd management tool in most areas. We shouldn't have to pay that kind of money. Take it back to $26 and i back in.

:yeah:
Pretty ridiculous like you said to make us pay for something that's good for the herd (usually)
-
Yep use to get them all the time... Will never apply for one now...
-
I know a number of people who didn't buy their tag due to price. I wonder how many of these tags go unpurchased?

Hopefully a lot of them, because most of the areas with 2nd deer tags, don't have too many deer. We need to stop killing the does.
-
$68 to be precise.

Maybe I'd agree with "some" don't have too many deer, but I bet from a scientific standpoint it would help the herds in a lot of the areas if not most of them, especially the ones on the eastside.

Look at the 500 and 600 GMU permits. Are the deer overpopulated in those unis?
-
Don't know. I've only hunted one of them a couple times for elk. Saw deer every time although that doesn't mean it's overpopulated. I think overpopulated is beyond the objective though. Managing a healthy level should be considered too before overpopulation happens.
:dunno:
Where's a bio when we need one?
-
Yes its true. :yike:
-
Kitsap must be heavily over populated.... They gave out ten second tags to modern....

Yeah, many of the units only have 10 to 15 permits so it's not a significant number of does that are being taken with these 2nd tags. It's obvious they only have these to generate revenue. Otherwise, why not just have these permits in the antlerless category?

Exactly... There are none for Kitsap in antlerless... It's any deer for archery and muzzy anyways... And I can bet $ that most the deer shot by muzzy and archery in Kitsap are does... All the kids around here had one hanging...
-
:yeah:
It sure seems that way for the bowhunters here in Kitsap and late muzzy guys down in Mason. All I am hearing about right now are the does, bucks must be on their vacation this last week.
-
page 14. 2nd elk tag(only available by special permit) $66.50 wow . cheaper than deer if you can get one. :bash: :bash:
-
The San Juan island that I hunt sold 25 second deer permits in 2011. This year four were purchased. The deer herd is overpopulated. WDFW revenues went down, the deer herd suffered, and hunters gave up hunt opportunity because of the high price.
-
Yep... Still need to head over after some more snow and hopefully buy it and fill it... Not gonna buy it till I know for sure though... That's still a little high for another tag imo... But get way more meat then a doe for cheaper!!!
-
The Island tags are tough with the need to acquire permission to hunt private property and pay for a ferry ride. Lots of people are deer lovers over there. I drew an Alts doe tag and thought it was very worth it. We got to scout new hunting area, eat our first whitetail meat (yummy!) And I filled a bear tag as a bonus. You can have opportunity to get a bear, cougar, bobcat or other. Every time we r in the field it is an opportunity. I also drew a late whitetail buck tag and had so much fun watching the muledeer as well as hunting (we will do it again just to watch the ruts and take pictures). I had to remind my husband we were hunting whitetail and needed to get to the hunting spot. We also saw some absolutely breathtaking scenery while the snow fell. One of my favorite hunts so far. It is going to cost us a bunch for taxidermy! I almost feel guilty that I've drawn 3 tags in the last 3 years and took two trips into the Pasayten in the same timeframe. Maybe next year will b my husbands turn. :chuckle: I'd take a doe tag every year!
-
I drew a second deer tag on the eastside and I consider it to be the opportunity of a lifetime. I can barely sleep. If you see a whitetailed doe deer atop a Mazda 3 give a honk!!
-
:yeah: That's how you do it right there :chuckle:
-
I would gladly pay the $68 for a 2nd tag if there was one available near where I live, in a unit with a lot of deer, where it was almost a sure thing. But, no such luck. I'd have to drive several hours and it's not worth it with the cost of gas.
-
They will try to squeeze every last penny they can take out of us and then start sucking the blood out of us to give the needy Obamacare recipients.

It's all about the experience...

I still cant believe its only 5 bucks more for NR to buy extra doe tags in MT. Ridiculous

True. Mazda 3.

Took my 7 year old on my Desert antlerless tag hunt last year. It was worth every penny.
