Give me a buzz when you're headed out sometime. I can pack a trap or two for ya if need be.
-
How 'bout packing a 55 lb beaver? :chuckle:
-
HA! You betcha pal. I'll bring my pack!
-
Hmmmmm...... Not much interest this year?
Me:
Beaver- 2

Muskrat- 1
I've been strugling with water levels so far with all of the rain. Hopefully the fluctuations will calm a bit.
-
Been very slow for me this year with the new daughter, but the partner is doing pretty good. going to try to put some mink traps out soon.

Add up another possum...as of Dec 29th.
-
Pics??Pics??? Did not happen if we don't see the pics!
-
I lost my freakin Lumix camera battery charger, hence why I have not posted pics recently of my brothers late buck hunt, and other cool travels i have done.
If you dont believe me, you can ask the possum. :chuckle:

Nice grinner. :chuckle: Is that one of Mercers' traps?
-
Yep, it's a Mercer bobcat trap. Dang grinner ate a whole beaver leg and stunk up the trap. My truck was too full to take the trap home to wash, so I threw a handful of duck feathers in the trap and left it for another day. Has anybody ever caught a cat in a trap with 'possum stink left in it?
-
Pictures. This thread needs pictures.
-
yep nothing like packing these heavy expensive traps into the woods and going to the trouble of setting up for cats and coming back to find a possum and bait all gone. Changing the bait is pain too. I gave up on that. These traps are a bunch of work for cats and then you worry about theft. Not to mention having to check them daily?////!!! We need to get that changed if nothing else. But I don't think the Game dept cares about that..just easier for them politically and another way to catch someone in violation of something. this year I'm wiring some beaver carcasses out and will wait for a cat hit before I set a cage.
-
5 coyotes so far. Just starting for beaver. I'll set for rats when duck season closed.

Got my first skunk tonight! Pics tomorrow.
Now...I got to read up on what the heck to do with it!
Man, I am gonna make a sweet skunk cap, thats for sure.

Read up on the skunk help thread. Probably saved my life! :chuckle:

How have the Comstock worked for beaver as a swimthrough trap so far?

[/quote] I am far from a beaver expert but in my experience the last couple of years they are deadly! The doors really slam with authority from out to in so if a beaver or otter are moving quickly I think it stuns them and slams them back into the trap. Checked 3 last night and had one in each trap, one being 50 lbs.
-
that is cool I have one...but I ordered some new traps from Kirk DeKalb and I should get them tomorrow. I plan on giving them all a good tryout over the remainder of the season. I have some ideas on where to set..up till now I have had two swim thrus out and have had no luck. One was sprung off twice and I had to pull it so I could modify it. The other is my Comstock and went to do my second check today but he rain yesterday put the creek out. What kind of place is bestt? Active beaver dams or just creeks with sign.? Beaver dams are fairly scarce here now for some reason. I thinks part predators and part year round trapping by timber co's
-
I like to set them upside down in the travel channels either around dams or misc. channels in the river. Caught a few otters last year in those. I've also caught guite a few either right above or right below the dam where they cross. What kind of DeKalb trap? I have one of his double door spring loaded traps but I don't do very well with it. I think it has too big of a profile.
-
he built a new one 12 by 12 by 36 and did some modifications for me to make it a better swim thru such as bar doors to make it faster. i will be getting them today and will post pics. He also posted a Utube video on it..I'm not sure if you can bring it up yet ..he gave me a link
-
If you can, post that link or a pic when you get it. I'd like to see it.
-
got em today and had to set one on the way home from picking them up. Apparently you go to kirk Dekalbs utube channel and he has a video posted. Iwill post pics tomorrow

Is it the one that looks like the Comstock? :dunno:
-
Yes but 12 by 12 with bar doors and DeKalbs trigger is on the outside so it is safe from the animal. Do you have much luck with cages for rats on dry land
-
I caught one in a dry run in a colony but haven't tried baiting them......yet.
-
Weekend total 2 coyotes I shot, 2 beaver in home built trap and 5 muskrats.
-
55 rats before freeze up. I am looking for advise to trap rats under the ice???

Use quartered apples for bait, it works.
