Was kind of curious. Does anyone have any idea if its possible to convert a ruger second model 77 338 to the new 375 ruger by merely rebarreling? Some one whose opinion I value told me it may not because of bolt face sizes. I don't know why I'm so enamoured by the 375 Ruger, but I'm quite stricken by this load.

I don't recall the 375 bolt face being too big to open the bolt up to..........however, unless you have some kind of bond with your action, you will be $$$ ahead to sell your gun and buy a 375.

Barrels aren't that expensive.

I know they arent no thousand bucks.

Should of kept the Savage you could of made the change for a couple hundred. :) :dunno: You will have to have a Gunsmith set headspace on the Ruger .No need to open up the bolt face as they are both .532-inch rim .
Barrels from E.R. Shaw are $150 ish and good barrels.

Still have the Savage, and while I love it, it's not my ideal rifle.

barrels are ar'nt 100$ but they are a couple hundred plus shipping plus the price of haveing the work done then does the smith doin the work live in your town? if not more shipping charges. I think if you sold it and used that money plus what you have figured into the rebarrel youd be about even with less head ache :twocents: unless of course the rifle has value outside monitary. JB

The smith is a short drive away. I have found one barrel for what I want for close to 200.
