i swear im cursed! iv killed a couple thousand ducks and prolly 300-400 geese and not 1 freakin band! in 15 years not a single one. i took a guy out from work last year and the only bird he shot was a double banded mallard, i got a triple on that set and he got 1 bird with a double band. sometimes i like to sulk....  :bash: anyhow, guess ill try again tomorrow!

Wrangler: You and I've got to share a blind some time. We can cry together.
I've been duck/goose hunting for 44yrs in 3 states. Killed a couple thousand ducks and a hundred geese and am still bandless.
I'd be happy with a duck with a scar on his leg where the band fell off.

I've got a few band's myself but, I've got far more memorie's of hunt's with friend's and family that matter more to me. They're simply just a bonus to me, nothing more.

I really with they'd do away with money bands, it's bad enough that people shoot as many birds as they can just to get a regular band :bash:

I would have to disagree.  I think that the young kids with full lanyards get extra stars next to their name on e-bay and probably don’t shoot that many birds.  It is totally random on when you get them other than collared geese.  Some locations have the luxury of pit blinds, lots of corn and a 15 yard landing zone.  The birds have to hover to drop in amongst the decoys and those ones are easy to pick out and you can pass on a lot of birds before you decide to shoot if your band hunting.  Those that hunt near banding location and hunt frequently will always get luckier than most.  The odds are stacked in their favor.  The more you hunt and the more limits or birds that are harvested your odds also increase.  Depending on the birds shot that can also change things up.  I enjoy each and every hunt and when a band comes my way, it just makes that one particular hunt a little more memorable.

over 30 years duck hunting & 2 bands. no worries, i don't hunt bands. to those that have had the good fortune to get banded birds, good for you, its a treat. an opportunity to learn where your birds are coming from.& a little history about them.

A lot of people get bands by hunting banding locations.  I know a lot of guys in Oregon head to places like Summer Lake to kill bands on the opener and can get multiple bands on an opening weekend.

Personally, I've killed 2 bands out of hundreds of ducks.  One mallard drake from Alberta and one teal drake from the Yukon Delta.

I used to hunt very close to a banding location in Kentucky (my home state).  I have honestly killed so many banded Canada geese that I have no idea where all the bands even are.

On top of that I have been very lucky.

I once doubled on woodies that BOTH had $100 reward bands.  I almost died!

Last year was my first year in Washington and I didn't expect much in the way of bands....Well I ended up with 1 mallard band and one collared goose! Awesome.

To me though specifically targeting banded birds (landing them, hunting residents, etc.) is lame.  Its all about the hunt for me.  I dont care much about bands.

I have duck hunted for several years no bands? I have taken thousands of ducks.  I don't care that much about bands, but I am beginning to doubt the existence of banded birds?

I've gotten one banded drake. I got cold and went for a walk to warm up and jumped him up. Fun little memory, but many better ones that have nothing to do with bands. Cool that guys get them and if it makes their memories of the hunt better then that's cool.

the funny thing is, that i got my 2 bands several years ago. called em in all & then put them in with my retired calls in a case that i made. at this time i couldn't tell you where they came from ? so no real memory there. one thing i do remember is that one # was questionable as it had no record.

The bird may have just been banded, so the data wasn't turned in yet.

they had me resend the #s as the first report came from the far east of canada & was not probable & the second contact from them showed no #s recorded.
any way it is kind of cool to find out where your birds come from but, as far as my two bands go they hold no memories as to any specific hunt goes.
be interested to know how many of the guys that have thier laynards full remember
the hunts?
sure is nice bling though.

I recieved my certificate today via email.  I have to say it was a bit of a let down.  I thought that I the thing would have been banded somewhere in Canada or CA(someplace with a story) instead it was banded at the rock island golf course in June of 09.  It must have been a local bird.

That is a bummer.  It is always cool to see that the bird has traveled thousands of miles.

In SW Washington you have to take them to a check station.  They are making sure your not shooting duskies.  You can only hunt them on specific days from 8-4pm.  The check station marks the birds they check.  If they aren't marked and in route to a check station, they will ticket you.
