I'm fairly new to the bear huntin' thing and need some advise
I found an area with large concetrations of bear and the area is very thick with trees and undercover. How can I hunt this area? No clear cuts or open areas to speak of.
I just walk the FS roads and logging roads, is this the best/only way?
Thanks in advance

I would set up cross or down wind and predator call this area. Very effective if you have smokin hot bear sign.
-
It sound like a good area to still hunt and predator call when you locate the bears.
-
i agree with machias
-
I think you should take me there to figure out the best approach. When I get it all figured out, I will then teach you.
-
I agree with the calling advice. I have called in several bears. It can be done. Give it a try- it is very exciting! Brian.

Thanks all
I will try a predator call, which would be best?
-
I would look for a long stretch in a forest service road that has alot of bear activity. Do some calling, if there is any elderberries left along the road focus on them. That seems to be what the bears are focussing on now.

What if I call in a bear on the ground and its not a shooter or with cubs, could be dangerous??????
-
if a situation becomes dangerous :Prous, you've got a gun. i dunno how much bear spray is costing these days cuz it would suck to have to shoot a mothering sow in self defence. have you looked at using a treestand?
-
Thought about a stand but think I'm just gonna stay on the ground adn give that a shot.
Will let all know how I did if I go this weekned

Here is a link to some bear calling info.

I feel your pain! Have only seen one this season and it was 800+ yards away in the fog.

Whats the general area you are going?
-
I have hunted multiple area up HWY 2 and a few around Snoqualmie and Easton with no luck. Need to get out more though. Hopefully the two on my property in Colville/Kettle are still fat and lazy and just waiting around for me............

I have called in a sow and cub...although she was not charging in like I have had others, she was still coming. All i did was cough and let her know I was human...off she ran very quickly. Try to find a spot where you can see around you, that way you (and the bear) will to have an OH *censored*E moment which can cause a problem.
Be careful, be ready and have fun.
Oh ya..take Dekuma too... ;)
-
I am pretty pathetic, huh? :'(
I hunted bears for years and never had a problem getting one. Then I stopped hunting them until this year, and I cannot get one to save my life.
-
Not pathetic Dekuma...I was thinking bout it last night...I think the spot you and I discuss is good for me, cause I go midweek...less berry pickers...sorry for the :jacked:
back to the topic!
Find berries, a high stump and hunt dusk/dark. ;)
