I'm thinking we haven't had the full swing of the migration because lack of cold weather?? What are your thoughts :dunno:
-
I'm thinking there has been a lot of birds around for a while now. seems like it'll only get better.

Good we definitely need more birds in the area we hunt
-
I've also been noticing a lack of birds around. Also with all the water the birds that are here are really spread out.
-
yeah that! :yeah: we need cold weather to concentrate the birds... there are plenty around, just very spread out.
-
Dec11 th and we have had one real frosty mornings so far.
I think it has everything running late.
I have had numerous Doe sightings and will take a big fatty
After the 20th....
-
The majority of the birds haven't arrived where I hunt. Usually it is pretty water dependent, but this year we have had plenty of water but no big push of birds. There are definitely some northerns around, but the big push is yet to come. :twocents:

Portland, OR still hasn't hit freezing. I think the latest recorded first freeze is Dec 25 (1966). Based on the current models, good chance we'll go past that this year.
-
There is ALOT of open water. Birds are alot more evasive with that being so.
-
Actually...just looked at the model. Looks like the next week will be pretty chilly, with lows flirting around freezing here.

I'm still wearing shorts.

The only pants you wear are waders. :chuckle:
When mentioned full migration, I don't believe it really ever happens on the wet side of the state. It would take a few weeks of solid freeze up for that to occur. Since that is not likely or usually never the case they are pretty spread out. Eastern WA will have occurances where all the birds are pushed to the the CR and many head for Sunny CA. or the lucky few that have ice eaters and warm springs get to retain some of the action.
In the past week we have seen a large push of wigeon and pintails. Their were large 100 plus bird flocks coming in. Always fun this time of year.

:yeah: I have started seeing the pintails :IBCOOL:
-
6 greenheads and a bootlip today on the eastside
-
I know we need cold weather to get the birds moving from up north. I have hunted my 2 fields with minimal success. There is just so much open water everywhere its hard to see any kind of patterns. I hunted yesterday and only saw 11 birds with ZERO shots.Full body's[, floaters, jerk lines....NOTHING:bash: Birds are very decoy shy so im thinking I will hit the Delta tomorrow in the Four Rivers layout boat. Go in on high tide and Wait for the tide to go out, lay in the mud and wait.Ride the tide back up and float out. No decoys, no calling. We shall see :dunno:
This is my new blind:

We haven't seen the push of wigeon and pintails down south of you yet. Typically there are hundreds of wigeon around when it is good and killing limits of almost all wigeon is the norm. Now I'm only killing one or two wigeon a day.
-
i havent seen any widgeon this year
in the last two trips have only got one bufflehead
my lakes saltwater and farmland spots are dead
i need something to change or need new grounds to hunt
im desperate

This time of year your usually right, but it's been so slow I have been sleeping in.
-
It definetley hits the west side  have had very good days towards the ocean this time of year and normally killing at least 2 man limits everytime... 2 weeks ago!
-
never hunted near the ocean just the sound
on my agenda though
time to try new places
last trip had cut pipes for gas theves loosing half a tank and only shot 1 bufflehead

It's a slow year so far. Early was good due to awesome local nesting. I shouldn't have a problem shooting limits. Instead I'm shooting coot and shovelers to kill the boredom.
-
And no freezing weather in the 10 day forecast....
-
We may never get the weather.
-
It's kind of depressing. Been taking some of the guys out from work to hunt and teach them about duck hunting, but it's been really slow going... i feel kind of bad about it actually.
Last Saturday, we had two wood ducks fly directly over at 0735, then that was it. After three hours, we got up and tried to walk the marsh and jump shoot something.... nothing. Checked some sloughs and other marshes... nothing. Ridiculous.

-
Maybe this will bring the birds :dunno:
-
The only day I don't want it to be cold and wet is tomorrow :bash: :chuckle: :P
-
Got some Northern Mallards today in Sequim (2) lost another and the rest ???? I could not hit the side of a barn at 20 yards :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Definitely got the ducks today, I think the colder weather brought hundreds and hundreds of widgeon, we had a tornado if them today
-
Now we should be getting the birds... This snow should help, also I saw in the news that a cold front is on it's way!
-
Snow/rain in Arlington :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Mostly snow here!! Hopefully that's a sign :IBCOOL:
-
Weather still hasn't pushed a ton of birds into my area.
-
Seeing a ton of ducks along Cook Road and I-5 between 232 and 231 but all private ground.
