I am looking to put my dog into some bird training this coming spring and was wondering if anyone could give any recommendations on who a good trainer in the state is. She will be just over a year old and is a black lab. Mainly looking for upland training with a lot of focus on live birds as that is something i can't really work with her on at home. Right now I am leaning towards the Head Start program at Tiger Mountain Kennels.

John Greer is a great trainer for Upland!
-
you want your lab trained for upland, but he isn't a pointing lab right?
tiger mountain is hard to beat, Ryan fortier at long hollow retrievers in ellensburg is a choice too. Ryan got his start as a trainer at tiger mountain if Im not mistaken.

i've used both conway kennels and rocking m labs. would highly recommend both!!!

Thanks everyone. Ive already contacted long hollow. I will have to check with conway kennels and rocking m labs.
Her dad was a natural pointing lab. She has pointed a wing in the yard before, but not with consistency. Hopefully whoever I take her too can bring that part of her out more.

Here is a link to a video of Tiger Mountain results. John is great and his assistant Ben is great with the dogs.

Long Hollow Retrievers Ryan Fortier lives where he works. he lives next to the 350acres he trains on. He trained my chessie and did a good job his cost is also very competitive, and not really that far away. Ellensburg...

He doesn't like Chesapeakes, only wants to hunt with Black dogs....Can't recommend Ryan for anything. He's pretty worthless :chuckle:

Is this a serious review? Can't tell if you are joking or not.

Ryan's an great dog trainer. He just told me once he likes to hunt with Labs after I asked him why he doesn't have more Chessies in his videos. BTW, check out his videos. He's producing his own waterfowling show and it's all filmed here in WA. Couple epidodes on the Columbia River too-

I'm not sure if Happy is ever serious. Must be all that time spent with curly chocolates. All the above mentioned trainers are good, you may also want to check out Skyhigh retrievers in Othello. They train year round And Winter in So Cal

Thanks everyone for your input. I've emailed all of the suggested trainers and I think I'm going to stick with my first instintic and take her to John at Tiger Mountain.

One Of the dogs Ryan works is Rufus and darker chessie. Rufus was there and i go tto see him work some. Thats one of the reasons why i went with him. Some trainers don't like Chessies and just complain that they are hard headed... They are, BIMO a good trainer understands each dog and how To got them moving in the right direction.

Doug & Scott at cook Canyon turned Maggie into a bird fiend when she was a puppy. Very effective, professional and kind people, he and Aice are. Highly recommend them. http://hstrial-aburnett.homestead.com/ (http://hstrial-aburnett.homestead.com/)
