Title: Mature Bull Sprig
Post by: sakoshooter on December 16, 2012, 12:09:31 PM
8 1/4" Bull Sprig yesterday at Nisqually. Pretty slow day for the most part but 4 of us ended up with a dozen birds and this was my first of the morning. Always like to start a day off with a good one.

My first duck was a pintail drake like that, tail might be shorter but they definitely look similar  nice bird!

 very nice bull sprig. Tough hunting down on the Delta lately. I was down there all day Thursday and went a O for only 2 shots.... Lots of high flyers.

Yes, very tough at Nisqually lately. Too much sheet water all over. Just about every field around is holding water these days. I think we need some cold weather up north to start the migration.
Last Sat I shot on Widgeon early. Sat till almost noon without firing another shot so I picked up.

nice bird!! i hate shooting pintails tho, they are just too beatuiful to me to want to just eat...side question(if its acceptable) but where is the starting point for when you measure a sprig on one of those bad boys?? never thought about that. i have one mount(by Willow Creek Taxidermy) that is probably similar in size to that one, just curious where ou start

Total tail feather length. Ya have to pull em to get an accurate measurement unfortunately.
